Eel Creek Campground sits among coastal shrubbery on the edge of the sandy dunes within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The campground provides a peaceful and attractive atmosphere for hikers and birders. The most popular non-motorized trail here is the John Dellenback Dunes Trail, which guides hikers through the scenic dunes to the Pacific beach. This section of dunes features spectacular heights and stunning, expansive vistas.

We where there sat-wed, the weekend can get pretty loud but during the week it was so quiet. LAKES! We are kayakers and let me tell you, the lakes are amazing. Eel lake (5 mins away) is beyond gorgeous once you get away from the main area. There are 2-3 other lakes within 30 mi. I will say if you want close beach access this campground may not be the one. We had to go to Winchester Bay about 30 min North to get to the beach (Umqua lighthouse/North Beach). HIKES!!! Lots of hikes, there is a 2 that start at the campground, one is a little 1.2 miler and the other is 6.4 mi. There are many other hikes around the area as well. TOWNS! Coos Bay is about 35 mi South of the campground and has everything that you might need. They have a Walmart, Dicks…. And MUCH more. I should mention there are no restaurants near the campground itself so bring food and be prepared to cook. There is a minimart about 2 mins away along with a gas station (SPENDY GAS) AND….. a Dollar General which has just about all you need. All in all it’s a FIVE STAR campground for us and most definitely will be going back!!

There was no tag for our vehicle to indicate that we were registered guests who were supposed to be there. Several times we saw vehicles drive through that seemed to be scoping out people’s sites while they were out enjoying the dunes. We would choose a different spot next time. The hike on the Dunes was beautiful but most days we could not see the water…. Just more dunes. Ok as a base to explore the area-but not our favourite for sure.

From Reedsport, Oregon travel south for 10 mi to Eel Creek Campground. The campground entrance is located on the right (west) side of Highway 101 near mile post 222.
Guidelines for a safe visit to the Siuslaw National ForestThe Siuslaw’s campgrounds, day use areas, and trails continue to be open for public enjoyment. While you are visiting the Forest, please adhere to the following guidelines. These guidelines will help ensure a safe and healthy visit for you and your family, our employees and volunteers, and other visitors: Please keep in mind that restrooms are generally cleaned and disinfected at least once daily at the more popular campgrounds and day use sites, and once to three times a week at other sites.Be prepared to provide your own soap, sanitizer, or disinfectant.If no trash receptacle is provided, please protect your public lands by packing out your waste and trash.
Forest Service-operated campsites on the Siuslaw National Forest are currently available by online reservation only. Visitors can make reservations online through this website (preferred), or via phone by calling the recreation.gov phone line at 877-444-6777. If you call this number, please be prepared for longer-than-usual wait times. Please note that the Siuslaw National Forest does not have any control over the recreation.gov phone line, so we ask you to please prepare by making reservations well in advance.
There is a 14-day in 30 rolling days camping limit on the Siuslaw National Forest. The 14 days does not have to be consecutive. The 14-day limit covers the entire Siuslaw National Forest and not just this campground as shown in the Rules Section. This means you cannot go to other campgrounds on the Siuslaw National Forest after reaching the 14-day limit.
No RV hookups available in this campground
Sites must occupied within first 24 hours of arrival time. Otherwise unoccupied sites will be considered a "no-show" and will be released.

There is a 2 vehicle limit per campsite
This campground is located in close proximity to multiple lakes and wetlands. Due to this, there can be an abundance of mosquitoes between the months of April and August. Please be prepared for this.
