About Tyee Campground - Umpqua River

Tyee Campground is situated between the Pacific Coast and the city of Roseburg, Oregon. Perched on the banks of the Umpqua River, its location appeals to avid anglers and water sport enthusiasts. The name, Umpqua, is a surviving term of the Native American Umpqua language, and translates to "thundering waters," "satisfied," or "across the waters." For awareness when making reservations: There are two Tyee Campgrounds in Oregon. This location is on the Umpqua River, and another is located near the Oregon Dunes.Firewood is currently unavailable for purchase on site.

What Guests Are Saying

Tyee Campground is a well-maintained, beautiful site with clean facilities and friendly camp hosts, making it a pleasant place for families and outdoor activities. The campground offers good access to the Umpqua River, with spacious sites and walking trails, although some areas can be quite noisy due to nearby highway and logging traffic. While most campers enjoyed their stay, concerns were raised about odors from vault toilets and close quarters between campsites.

We had the opportunity to meet the very best camp host ever!
The New reservation only system charges an additional $8 fee that quickly wiped out our golden passport discount. Not a great idea for a single night stay.

It’s always a positive experience camping at Tyee. Earl is the best camp host! The bathrooms are always very clean and his friendliness is greatly appreciated.

Shady, clean, close to the river. Quite a bit of highway noise but, not as bad at night. RV sites are pretty level. Minimal blocking. Only complaint- camp host is lazy and unfriendly. Really nice camp.

We first visited in 2020 in our 22' Class B, but Tyee was closed due to CoViD lock down. Traffic along the 138 was almost non-existent. Not so today with many logging and big rig trucks along 138. City dwellers might not notice, but country folks might.

The parking sites are nowhere near level, so you will need extensive leveling capability in an RV or trailer. The sites are rated for 52 feet, but about 15 feet of that is not parking. We had to park our Chevy Spark sideways to fit behind our 32' Class A. Sites 1-10 are on a loop which is difficult to navigate with anything longer than about 25 feet.

Site is well maintained and the staff are friendly and helpful. No mobile service to speak of. OTOH, it's nice to be unreachable.

A beautiful spot with easy river access. Quite, clean sites with nice spacing and a friendly unobtrusive camp host. We will definitely be back.
