Like the other campgrounds on the Metolius, Allen Springs is located amongst towering Ponderosa Pines, on a turn of the Metolius River that broadens the river view. Most of the campsites are better suited to tents rather than RV's.

I arrived mid day on 2nd day of reservation to find a family in my reserved site. The “reserved” card was blank. The lady told me the official making rounds told them site was available, so they moved their stuff over. I reported this to the official ( not a camp host) & he said they were “behind due to staffing.” Fortunately the campers were gracious after seeing my reservation notice and left. Unnecessary confusion, and had to stand around in the heat waiting to get into the site. Otherwise Allen Springs was good

Love this campground! SO beautiful. We come here every year. Love how quiet it is.
Only issue is no potable water in the campground. And the recycling was overflowing.

A longtime favorite of ours. Not very RV friendly, much more of a tent campground. No water on site. Yellow Jackets beginning to become a nuisance at mealtimes. No cell service, which is a plus in these over-connected times we live in.

Beautiful campground, even though there was no water. Quiet and peaceful. Yellow jackets were pesty, but could not compete with the lovely Metolius River.

Filthy bathrooms and poor layout of the campground...some sites way too close where others have vast room. Lots of sites need to be properly maintained.

Allen Springs in September was beautiful and we loved it in this early fall season. Hiked along the river trail in the warm afternoons, and enjoyed being on the banks of the Metolius as always. Folks at the Camp Sherman store were friendly and the coffee & pastry were delicious.

Toilet was stinking, but I like the campground. The tent campers were a bit loud. The space was fine for me, downhill. The people trooping through on the trail didn't bother too much. Great area.

General

  • Please Note: One RV with tow vehicle per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground. 
  • Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment and tires before using trails.
  • Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.  During your time in Central Oregon, you can find wildfire, prescribed fire and smoke information at centraloregonfire.org 
  • Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
  •  Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).
  • Camping or otherwise occupying a single location (including leaving camping equipment and/or related supplies) for a period longer than 14 consecutive calendar days is prohibited. ‘Location’ means the occupied area, the occupied campsite, and the National Forest System lands in the immediate vicinity thereof. Camping or occupying any location on all National Forest lands for more than 28 calendar days total during a calendar year is prohibited.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination.
