About Whisky Camp Guard Station

Whisky Camp, built in the 1940s, was the summer home of a fireguard whose primary duties were to fight and prevent fires, serve as a relief lookout, and perform maintenance on phone lines and trails. Located in the Tiller Ranger District in southwestern Oregon, the cabin now offers relaxation and recreation for visitors throughout the year. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for travel to this site, and guests must bring several of their own supplies. Please be aware that in winter months guests may need to snowmobile, ski or snowshoe up to five miles one-way to reach the cabin. Consider this winter travel advisory when making your reservations.

Super far off the highway when coming in from the east side. Had to clear a downed tree on the way. But the cabin is really great and no one is around

This place has been a family tradition for the past 21 years and has always been one of our favorite places to disconnect from the world, slow down, and make memories together. We truly love this cabin and the memories we’ve made here over the years.

One of the saddest things for us has been seeing the hiking trails become less and less maintained. Exploring those trails has always been such a special part of our visits, and we miss being able to enjoy them like we used to.

Over the years, it also feels like the cabin has gradually gone from being well cared for to needing more and more repairs and attention. I completely understand that the condition can depend on how guests treat the property, but between the trails and the cabin itself, it has become apparent that the property could really use some much-needed TLC.

We will always cherish this place and the 21 years of memories it has given our family. We just hope to see some care and attention put back into it so future families can experience the same magic and create their own special memories here.

Had a blast with the kids! We make an annual trip to come to the cabin.. this year so far has been the best. Whoever stayed before us did an awesome job cleaning before they left. Thank you! We tried to leave it the way we found it. We rode quads up to butler butte wondering, if the camp there is being maintained?? What happen to the look out?

Mice...Mice...Mice. Kept me up till 3am as they like to party at night. Caught one but it sounded like several more in the walls. They are not accessing the inside of the cabin though. Feels like it needs a solid cleaning and a fresh coat of paint inside to make it feel like a solid cabin vs a little homeless camp. Overall still a great trip.

Rustic no one else around. Need to find the spring next time. With no water for a shower, two nights was enough.

Lovely historic cabin in a gorgeous setting. Map several ways in, as the roads to it are through a burn and our initial route was blocked due downed trees. Oddly no wildlife was apparent, which made for a bit of a spooky silence, but overall very relaxing. Refrigerator was not functional, so bring a cooler and ice.

Whisky is the best. We did some work on the fence to make it look a bit better, cleaned up the outhouse, tidied up in general. I love whisky.
