Nice campground on top of a beautiful mountain surrounded by woods. Doesn't get much better than that!
Add clean restrooms/showers and I would say it was perfect!

A wonderful park with so many trials to hike.
There was only one glitch upon arriving at the park. Our site was double booked because the other campers used the cash money box at the park and WE rsvp'd through Rec.gov, which guarantees no double booking. The other campers couldn't check to see of our site # was already booked because there was no cell service.
This situation needs to be looked into for future people booking.

Love the rustic, isolated environment; great hiking trails, campsite with plenty of space and separated somewhat from others.

For a real campground camping experience this is the place to go. Campsites are far enough apart for your personal privacy. Bathhouses are exceptionally clean. I stayed during the middle of the week so there wasn't many people. My friend said the weekends are very busy. The lake was an awesome addition to the trip. Beach "sand" was perfect for hanging out and having a fun day swimming and chilling. This is definitely a better maintained campground for a National Forest run facility.

Beautiful campground with a lot of shade. Our site was nice and long, and private. Restrooms were clean. There was only one shower and if the campground were full, that could present a problem.

Exceptional experience. Thank you to the camp host and to Forest Service for making our stay pleasurable.
Sherry and Paul Payne are the best. The bathrooms and our campsite was so nice and clean. Trash was alreadys picked up.
Not to mention how friendly and helpful.

I booked a site at Chilhowee for my husband to take my 2-year-old son camping and they enjoyed it immensely. The campground is clean and child friendly. An unruly neighbor was dealt with quickly and professionally. They had every opportunity to be safe and have fun!

The campground is located on FDR 77/Oswald Dome Road.
Be Aware; Do not use GPS directions: GPS coordinates will direct you up Benton Springs Rd. This route is not recommended. We recommend using Forest Service Road 77 to reach the recreation area. It's important to note, this facility requires driving 7 miles up to Chilhowee Campground on a narrow, winding road. Do not use the Benton Springs Access Road to the campground as this is an unpaved and dangerous road for RVs. Inexperienced RV drivers may have difficulties getting to and around the site.
From Highway 64/411 intersection travel east 7 miles, turn onto Forest Road 77, drive 7.5 miles to campground/recreation area. Do not use Benton Springs Road for access to the mountain.
Chilhowee Campground is accessible via Highway 64/411, located approximately 7 miles from the campground. From the highway, travelers should turn onto Forest Road 77 to reach the campground.
Elevation: 638 feet
17 mi drive to downtown Benton (about 29 min)

General

It's important to note, this facility requires driving 7 miles up to Chilhowee Campground on a narrow, winding road. - The campground is located on FDR 77/Oswald Dome Road.
- Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings only.
- Do not leave fires unattended. They will be extinguished.
- Discharging firearms and fireworks is prohibited.
- Pets must be on a leash and are not allowed on the beach.
- No lifeguards on duty; swim at your own risk.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- The nearest restaurants and/or stores for purchasing supplies are about 14 miles from the campground.
- Campground hosts are on site.
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
- Be Bear Wise: Never leave food out on tables or in the open. Store unattended food in bear-resistant containers, in a vehicle in solid non-pliable material, or suspend food at least ten feet off the ground. Remember to use the bear resistant trash receptacles provided at this facility.
