What Guests Are Saying

Poole Knobs Campground is praised for its beautiful, spacious, and wooded sites, many of which are located by the water, providing great views and access to lake activities. While some campers noted issues with site leveling and maintenance, the overall atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, with friendly staff and clean facilities. Despite a few negative experiences with park attendants and minor inconveniences, many visitors express a strong desire to return and appreciate the campground’s charm.

The day we were checking out, Tuesday June 5th, my wife had gotten very sick, so I drove her home before returning to break camp. Upon returning to the campground, the man at the gate, who was probably in his 50’s or 60’s, was extremely rude and unfriendly. I then drove back to my site and began packing up to go home. This was at 11am an hour before checkout. The same man from the gate then drives over to my site in a golf cart and begins harassing me to hurry up because “he has to get his cleaners in here to clean my site”. I then confirmed with him that “checkout is at noon correct?” He grumbled a couple of more sentences of harassment at me before driving off in his cart. Plenty of other options. Will never be back here again.

Very nice campground with large, spacious, private sites. LOTS of deep woods surrounding them all. Mix of "tent only" and RV sites. Outer loop didn't really have access to bathhouse (LONG walk up a VERY steep hill to access it). Bathhouse needed lots of TLC but usable. No real "trails" but campground was very spread out and made for a beautiful walk. Lots of shopping just off I-24 on the way to the park (4-5 miles). Best sites for lake access and sunsets were 56-61 and 38-48. Description said "sewer available" (FHU) but only had water/electric, dump station was VERY busy at checkout (Sunday morning).

We're grateful that sweet hosts Sharon and Craig were so kind and helpful to us!! Site is Rocky and overgrown with felled trees and tall brush that block lake views and water toy access, but the sweet #46 neighbors shared their lake access point with us! Great camp hosts and community feel with all fellow campers and dogs!

The location of spot 46 was an excellent view! The site was a bit un-level, but not too bad. This area of the campground is EXTREMELY quiet, like hearing a pin drop. We were nervous about our dog's barking being an issue and did not even feel like we could play music. Water access is good for wading, but really rocky and not suited for fishing really, we kept getting hung up on the rocks. The bathroom that was close to us is literally a HIKE up-hill so be prepared for that.

Camp site 34 is extremely unlevel! It is horrible for an RV or camper! Way too unlevel! And Summer being prime time on the lake, why does Poole’s Knob boat landing parking lot have lake buoys IN THEIR PARKING LOT? ? The boat landing pavement still has massive holes that needs fixed! The host couples are awesome! So kind & friendly!

Poole Knobs Campground has been around for many years. A hidden gem as far as lakeside campgrounds go. Some campsites are right on the water, and many are nicely shaded. If you need a padded side, there are only 2 (30 & 32) and they are usually booked. In 2022, they did a lot of cleaning up and tree trimming. Looks much better! My main complaint is that Poole Knobs now has a 12 noon check out time. I don’t know any campground who does this! I emailed one of the park rangers and she claimed it was necessary in order to have sites ready for the next occupant. I strongly disagree. We’ve been camping there for almost 20 years and our site has always been clean and ready. Very few RV campers leave a mess. I just think the clean up crew decided to complain and found a way to give themselves more time for no reason! I’ve watched them clean the sites and it literally takes them 5-10 minutes each. They clean out the fire pit and grill (if necessary) and that’s it. I’ve talked to a lot of people who camp there, and I have not found one person who said their campsite wasn’t ready when check out time was 2pm! I don’t understand why the “larger” campgrounds don’t seem to have this problem!? Some people check out very early, so it’s not like all the people leave at the same time…
My 2nd complaint is that this campground closes after September 30, and our county schools’ Fall Break is the following week! Poole Knobs would be completely full for that week and it should be OPEN! I’ve written letters to the state, but of course, nothing changes and one ever responds.

Great location, it would be nicer if the lots were a little more level.

Loved the campground but hated the low trees that you have to travel under to get there. They smack the top of my tall fifth wheel with no way of avoiding.
