Poole Knobs

Great place to camp in a good location

I chose my site based on description and comments. When I checked in and went to the site we did not fit and is was very slanted. We went back to check in and was told they didn't think we'd fit and assigned us a different site. If they didn't think we'd fit they should've said something! The 2nd site was big enough but still sloped down towards the lake. Most sites looked un-level but the park in general was nice and peaceful. Traveling from Illinois to Georgia this was a nice, convenient location with lots of shopping and restaurants close by.

Was very dangerous with the steps and hard to level the camper. I ended up falling down the steps. I was not injured just bruised and sore. Also a huge rat got into our camper and that made it unpleasant u til we caught it in a trap.

This was our first time at Poole Knobs and we went for the weekend before heading back home. While it was a bit difficult to book the reservation, I think it was the website, BUT once we got there it was such a relaxing time. We had a campsite by the water, so beautiful and clean! Neighbors near by were so friendly, we made friends! Safe to say it was a wonderful experience, cannot wait to go back!

Simply comparing to other COE campgrounds, Poole Knobs did not feel camper-ready. Our campsite, and many others, was not level. We did our best with multiple tries and use of leveling blocks, but still did not have a comfortable experience for the week. Anything is doable for a night or two, but we will not consider a week's stay at this particular campground again. The grass areas were not managed. We inquired about the upkeep and were told that it was contracted, but there were no set dates when it was done. Interesting that maintenance arrived to cut the grass the day before we left. There are always other places to consider when camping, so more effort should be made to have safe and welcoming campsites in hopes of return visits.

The campsites are very nice and spacious. I wish they would clean up the edges of the water some so you could at least fish from the banks of the campsites.

Too late of check in. They say it’s the “rangers decision “ due to cleanup time. I’ve never seen a worker do any cleaning.

This is a beautiful campground. Very spacious and wooded. Sites on the water. Would definitely campground here again.

We love Poole Knobs. It’s an old campground right on the lake, and most of the water sites are very nice! If you have a boat, some of the water sites are not great for boats, due to large rocks in the water, ex: 64 and 46. Otherwise, those are great sites. Several sites need new gravel, and I report it every year, however I’m told that the state only provides a small amount each year and it’s not enough to accommodate. And some of the paved sites (such as 30, 32) are great, but when it rains, mud comes pouring across them. We still love the campground, but it would be great if more could be done.
