Beautiful, spacious and peaceful park

Our favorite local campground! Water activities were a little different this time as the water was lower than usual due to the previous lack of rain. Our campsite was not as clean as it usually is, but still a great place to camp.

We had a wonderful spot with a beautiful view of the lake. Check in was effortless, attendant on duty was very helpful.

Access to the water at the sites by the water and the bathrooms were SO clean I was incredibly surprised! Beautiful site and you aren’t too close to your neighbors.

Camp was nice, quiet and scenic. Our site (11) was large and mostly flat but the entrance and exit were steep and tight curve. We have a 37' camper and crew cab truck and it was really close to get it in and out, I was not sure I would be able to detach and re-attach the truck with the immediate drop angle for the site exit. I had to make two runs on the exit angle to shift the camper so we would not run over the wooden erosion wall at the exit. A short camper would probably not have an issue; our rig is a bit on the long side.
That said we did fit and only needed one set of blocks on the road side to get the camper level. Hookups are at the end of the site which made a short electrical run but took our 50' hose to get the water to reach the front of the camper where our panel is located.

We came prepared and I have a lot of towing experience, so everything worked out fine.

When we got to Poole, the site that reservations gave us wasn't going to work and the weekend was full. They gave us one of the emergency sites and the weekend was saved!

We love Poole Knobs campground. It’s been around a very long time, but still a great campground. Water sites are hard to come by on weekends and holidays, so book early! There are a few sites that are no longer level, such as 28, 34, and others.. I’m always told the state does not allot enough money/gravel. So year after year, some sites never get attention. I have not been on every site, but if you bring a boat, it will be difficult to pull up to some sites, like 60 and 64. BIG rocks in the water, especially when the lake level is down.

The campgrounds itself were very nice! We liked the setting and how each site offered plenty of space and privacy.

Poole Knobs is a very nice park with a lot of sites right on the lake. Sites have lots of trees/shade, which is nice in the summer. Watch some sites if you have a slide, as some trees are right on edge of where you park and affect putting your slide out. Water is clean and you can swim right off shore at lakefront sites. Some sites are a little close together, but park is very quiet. If you are using the bathhouse, it’s quite a hike to get there from most sites and there is not very clear/defined trails to get there. There’s a lot of poison ivy in weeds/underbrush around sites, and ticks. They do not keep weeds/underbrush cut down around sites and down to the water like most COE parks. We still really enjoyed staying there and will definitely stay again!
