Rio Grande Village (Big Bend, TX)

Site 093 is fairly large and sits on the corner with a fairly level paved pull through drive which easily accommodated my 20ft trailer and truck. You could also back (30ft or less) into the level grass/dirt area to have the picnic table closer and leave the drive open to park in. Bathrooms & water are just across the way and while there was a good amount of foot & vehicle traffic using them, it was never overly noisy. Host was friendly and informative.

The campground was well managed and clean. We enjoyed the nature trail and bike riding.

Very noisy as tree cutting continues for all the giant beautiful and now dead trees that have been starved off water for years. Although in the Rio Grande with irrigation ditches, these once spectacular trees has been purposely killed. ‘ to revert the area back to what it once was’. Luckily we didn’t have to go back to the volcanic era. Noisy cutting during the day and big messes around all the time.

My stay at the Rio Grande Village camp sites was excellent. Spots 16 and 17 are great because they are not in the eye sight of other large RVs, but the bathroom and water source is just around the corner. Additionally, the campsite is within a short walk to the trailhead of the nature walk. There is a nice charcoal BBQ grill at each campsite, so bring BBQ utensils and charcoal. There is, however, no open fire allowed, so depending on when you are camping, bring additional layers of clothes and a warm sleeping bag if camping in the winter.

great place, super clean, and quiet. Just keep an eye out for the stray dogs that come over from Mexico.

Very well maintained campground

This campground is very nice, consistent with the desert environment. The facilities are clean. Restrooms and water are scattered around throughout the campground so that you can’t be very far from one. Neighbor were friendly but very quiet, so even without a lot of room, it was comfortable to camp there. The electric sites, which I did not use, would be the exception to that, as they were very close together, maybe 25’ wide parking places. I was in the tent/trailer area .

This campground was close (relatively) to the hot springs. There is a good trail about 3 miles long leading directly from the campground to the Hot Springs. It’s a lot of fun to hike back on after dark in the moonlight. I had a full moon. Otherwise, you can drive about 2 miles and then walk 2 miles an easy road into the spring. That might sound like a lot, but it’s as good as it gets. There is also an easy trail over to the river and actually a couple of short nature trails that originate at the campground.

The one thing I didn’t like was that there are quite a few little mesquite sprouts all over, which threaten the feet and make it harder to find the right spot for my tent. I suspect that there is reticence to use herbicides but that really should be done to clean up the ground in the campground for safety as well as convenience.

It’s a peaceful beautiful area.
Sanidump area was clean.
Staff are accommodating and friendly.
Nature park is nice easy hike/walk.

Location was good, sites clean, bathrooms warm and clean. Access to the showers, laundry and store was a short 5 minute walk.

Great camp host! Nice level sites with decent spacing. Good camp store and laundry with decent fuel prices. Great location for exploring Big Bend. Could use some low hanging branch trimming but mostly avoidable. We were in a NO generator site during a cold snap so it would be nice IMHO if the generator permitted area was larger. Great stay. Close to Boquillas Del Rey.
