About Lake Canyon Rec Area
Lake Canyon Recreation Area can be found along Utah's scenic Energy Loop, on top of the Wasatch Plateau. It is located just off Highway 31, approximately 18 mi east of the town of Fairview. The recreation area is situated between Huntington and Cleveland reservoirs, at an approximate elevation of 9 ft. The area is a paradise for anglers and off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

Great place to visit and camp. There are multiple lakes nearby for fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Energy Loop, a scenic byway, is the highway that runs through this area and it has beautiful scenery with a great view at the skyline point of the drive which is nearly 10 ft in elevation.

The location was idyllic. The site is beautifully forested and there is great separation from other campers for serenity and privacy. There were 2 factors that took this from a 5 star to a 3 star review. We were there 2 nights and each night night at 4am we were jarred awake by extremely loud tree cutting equipment. It appears they were removing dead trees from the forest but starting at 4am when it is pitch black out seems extreme when you are surrounded by campgrounds. The cutting continued all day until 4 pm.
The second issue was no campfires allowed despite having received torrential rainfall before our arrival and it was even raining during our stay. I feel the forest service could update their campfire policy with greater granularity based on current conditions. We sat in the cool damp evening with nothing to warm us so just retired to our tent early only to be startled awake at 4 am.
I know these were both temporary conditions so I would not hesitate going there again. It was just that they were both avoidable.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Utilities
- There is no drinking water available in the recreation area.
Site capacity
- Campsites are first-come, first-served for a fee of $5 per vehicle when not reserved.
Vehicles & parking
- Off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground.
