Tanners Flat

Thank you for the E-mail reminder of my reservation, It rained almost the whole time I was there still fun ... I would like to see running water and the bathroom up and going next time I go .

The was a water outage so portable toilets were set up. They smelled very bad by morning.
The people in the campsite next to us were being unsafe with their campfire (too large, and they were holding branches over the fire until the branches lit up), and yelled and swore at each other all the way up until 1 or 2 AM.
Also, in our site (26) there were no obvious places to put our tent. One open area was not flat, another open area was a bit too close to the campfire for our liking and was covered with lots of small branches (which we ended up removing), and then there was a third area down the trail between our site and another site which was not marked, making it unclear whether the pad belonged to us or the other campers. Those other campers (not the loud ones who I mentioned earlier) ended up walking over to our site to ask us that very question and we said it was okay with us if they just used it. Overall the experience definitely could have been better. It was beautiful though.

Was not bothered by anyone.

Beautiful setting - campsites are tucked in and around the rushing creek. Signs caution against entering the water. Facilities seem like they have aged out and are in disrepair. Perhaps its a temporary measure, but portaloos are stacked in front of locked bathrooms. No drinking water access.

We were told in advance that there would be no drinking water. We were surprised to find out that the restrooms were closed and replaced with Honey Buckets. I understand with the drought that there was no water for drinking and cleaning. However, we paid a very high price for this spot. We should get a prorated refund for an unimproved site. We’re at least should have been notified in advance of the restroom closure. We might have made other plans.

Clean, private sites. Picnic table needed replacing. Portapotties were the only bathrooms available due to a water shortage.

One of the main reasons for booking tanners flat campground is the availability of flush toilets. Unfortunately, the whole time we stayed, they had water issues and flush toilets were not available.

Campsite #31 was great. There were two large tent sites, two table, a counter, barbecue and fire pit. The camp was neat and clean when we got there. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the water and we had to haul in all our water for our needs. The portable toilets were way too full. I'm sure the repair to the water was anticipated to be completed the day after our visit but the portables needed to be emptied at least once in that two week repair period. That was very unpleasant. We appreciated the privacy of this campsite and would reserve it again.

Positives: Beautiful location with a roaring river along side the campsite. Lots of shade cover over the tent site and everywhere. We were able to pitch two medium sized tents side by side. We couldn't see other campers from either our tent site or our eating/fire pit site area. The campsite was very clean. Excellent T-mobile cell service at the entrance of the campsite and the beginning of the Little Cottonwood Creek Trail. Beautiful night sky full of bright stars.

Negatives: The "roaring" river. We tried to sleep, and couldn't. The river sounded like a heavy rainstorm or a very large fan blowing 24/7. At 3 am, we packed up our things and drove home. There was white water rapids that you could see and hear from our campsite. If you don't like loud, constant sounds, this is not the sleeping campsite for you (at least for us in June). Secondly,I used the AllTrails app to find the Little Cottonwood Creek Trail, and couldn't go very far because of having to cross medium sized rocks through creeks, and climbing through a rock field. I do not think bikes can come all the way to the campground, because I could not barely leave the campground on foot. (I did see other hikers go on the same trail.) Lastly, there was no T-mobile service at the campsite (but, I had full coverage at the entrance).

This campground is beautiful and full of trees and the raging river. Their women's bathrooms were out of order with portapotties available. It made the experience very uncomfortable which is why I gave three stars.
