Wilderness Road Campground

This was a beautiful park. Very clean, quiet and nice camp sites
I spent 14 days here. Tuesday morning about 11:15am I discovered my cargo rail on my truck ( front left rail) had broke and the ranger and caretaker was there and I asked if any of them had a drill so I could try and repair it just to get me to my next campsite? They both said no but maintenance would have one. I asked if they could get a hold of maintenance? The ranger looked at his watch and told me that not anymore today “ I kind of doubt it” knowing that I had to leave today ( next day ) and being a disabled 64+ old female with just her dog you would think that I would have been offered some kind of help? So I spent over 5 hours yesterday doing the best I could with what little I had. I am on my way to another campsite in Kentucky and I hope it holds up? My younger sister in Louisiana is going to order me new set of rails to replace these. I am hoping that I can get them delivered at the campground? I am pretty sure I can seeing I will be there 14 days.
Other than that which started bothering me this morning when packing up to leave and the demeanor of the ranger & grounds keeper is when I started getting angry because not even 11:30 am and maintenance was not available to let me use a drill to use larger screws to secure my cargo carrier and telling them I leave tomorrow?
But it is what it is! The park is beautiful, nice clean bathrooms and showers and great walking and hiking.

The park and staff get 5 stars. The site we booked, group site O2, gets zero stars. It was horrendous. It is so sloped that sitting by a fire is nearly impossible and very dangerous. To get from the car to the tent site was also dangerous. We literally slid down the hill with our gear. The site is listed for 25 people. We had 21 in 5 tents. There was not enough room and again, the slope!!!! The worst of all, however, was the proximity to the highway. It would have been more peaceful sleeping in the median on I-40. The truck traffic all night was unbearable. The bathhouses are in great shape and kept clean. I will go back to the park but never to the group sites. I should have been paid to camp there, not the other way around.

We stayed on night while visiting Cumberland Gap. This was a nice campground with very clean and accommodating facilities.

Very quiet campground. Sites wooded and private, easy check in. Good hiking. Nearby town has groceries, gas, numerous restaurants and fast food.

Campsites were spacious, clean, and the grounds were well kept up. Cumberland Gap has great hiking opportunities, the historical connection was very moving. Close by is the President Lincoln museum. We stayed a week and would come back.

We had a wonderful week! The ranger was so kind. The camp hosts took pride and care with the campground, better than at my place we’ve camped over the years. I applaud the state for making such great bathhouses as well!!! Great job everyone!!

Quiet and clean!

Awesome support of scouting programs in the group camping areas

We enjoyed a 3 night stay in an RV site with electric hookup. A lot of the sites aren't level, including the one we chose, but we were able to switch to a level one. The sites have some space and privacy between them and it was quiet when we were there (late March). There is good hiking in that area, including right from the campground (we enjoyed the Tri-Peak and Pinnacle hikes) The history in that area is interesting, and the town of Cumberland Gap is worth visiting, with some good places to eat. Also recommend spending some time at the Visitor's Center. An enjoyable 3 day stay!
