Wilderness Road Campground

Very nice campground, large sites and clean facilities. Lots to do in the area!

This is a clean campground, and all of the sites are separated from each other. Having a shower is definitely a plus for NPS property. And it was great that the campground wasn't filled to the brim. The only downside was that pretty much the entire campground is on a slope, and so every campsite is uneven. Some are really on an angle. If you are tent camping, you are probably going to have to look around carefully for a site that doesn't have much of a pitch to it.

What would be awesome is if the NPS made level tent pads at least at a few spots.

There were no hosts who used to maintain the restrooms so the rangers had to once a day. The ladies restroom was plugged from 4:30 pm until the next morning at 9:00 am. The showers were dirty due to people having their dogs in them. This was my third visit in two years and I was disappointed in the lack of supervision. I really loved going there but it was a big disappointment this time. I reserved it for nine days and would have left after two had I not already paid.

This is a great campground! Very private and the sites are nice. However, there's no staff on site to assist campers. We reserved a wonderful campsite for 3 days. It was perfect! Until we exited the vehicle and were met with loud, inappropriate music from another campsite that was several sites away. As we did not wish to listen to profanities or subject our children to this, we ended up having to find another site. Asking the campers to lower the volume of the music is not an option in this day and age, as it is impossible to know what kind of response you would get from someone.
Fortunately there were available sites and we could switch sites. But the site we had picked was much nicer and larger and we would have preferred to have stayed. It would be extremely helpful if your sites would enforce a policy regarding radios. This was one of several who were blasting music during our stay. I don't go camping to listen to other people's music. Please consider putting policies in place to restrict the volumes of music to where they must not be heard off of the site.
This is possible, because there was at least 2 other campsites who were playing music, but the sounds were so low that you could not hear them unless you were walking by them.
Other than the loud music and the lack of staff to assist with concerns, the campground is nice, the shower/bathroom facilities were fantastic, and there was ample covered picnic areas.

The campground is wonderfully maintained. The sites and facilities are always clean. The one downside is that some sites have a significant slope so pay attention to the grade in the site details.

Great site quite loved every day

Facilities were great, privacy at campsites was good. No interaction with any staff/host, but none was required. Lots of great hiking and history lessons to be had.

There is no Ranger at the ranger station you just go to your site. You cannot buy firewood in the park you have to get it at a store. We only sad the Ranger when we first walked in he was in the park but the three days and we were there he was the only range we saw

Cumberland Gap National Historic Park has been a getaway for years. The campground is beautiful, plenty of trees for privacy, and shade, and very well maintained. The park and campground are within a couple of miles of most amenities. The historic town of Cumberland Gap includes greenway, and hiking trailheads, excellent coffee and restaurants. Check out Gap Creek Coffee House for coffee and food, Nineteen19 for amazing cuisine, and a bar, Angelo’s for draft craft beer. Check out Pappy’s package store for wine and craft beer.
Cumberland Gap hosts a variety of festivals the light the year . Go to Guardians of the Gap Facebook page for details . Amazing hiking trails! My favorite is Sand Cave and White Rocks. Pinnacle overlook is a must see with easy access a few hindered feet from the parking lot .
