Hosts were very friendly and courteous. Camping area clean. Picture of campsite online gives impression that the site is waterfront. Actually, you have to carry or drive your kayaks to the boat launch which is about 300 ft away. Lots of kids zooming around on electric bikes and boards, yelling. Kids being kids but I would recommend eliminating the use of motorized devices in the campground. Sites are close together without privacy vegetation. Water is so low that the boat ramp was closed to trailered boats. No fault of the campground, common this summer. Great price.

The lake was a big draw for us to camp here and the lake did not disappoint. The water is beautiful and clear and deep. We used paddle boards to explore the area close to our campground and also drove up to Ryans Branch to put in up there so we could see Calico Rock. That was spectacular! We came in late summer and didn't see any waterfalls but plan to come back in late spring so we can see those.
The campground was well maintained. We reserved site 86 due to the size of our tent. A lot of the tent sites are *very* small. 86 was spacious and close to water and restrooms. Not a ton of trees to pick from to hang a closthesline or hammock but we made it work. We had a raccoon friend peek in our tent the first night :) keep your food in your car!

If you simply want a camping space at Philpott Lake within walkable access to the boat put-in ramp, (across a service road and small parking lot), and your not too picky, this loop (sites 1-18) is for you. Its more of a parking lot with utilities, so don't expect a particularly natural experience. Sites on loops further up the hill are in the woods and may feel somewhat more natural. Otherwise, its all there... the mostly level gravel pad & driveway, the fire ring, picnic table and of course water and electric. I did not have the courage to check out the bath house. Enjoy!
