Salthouse Branch Campground is nestled on the shores of Philpott Lake in the rugged foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. The park is located in a rural and sparsely populated part of Franklin County near the small community of Henry. Philpott Lake's clear water and natural shoreline make it a unique place for visitors to enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking and camping. Everything was good except for the Lake. There were several areas in the swimming area,near the bath house,sites 93 area, where the water smelled like something was dead. It smelled really bad. We looked around but couldn't find the source. Otherwise everything was good. I liked that I felt safe and the children could play freely without me worrying that they'd be hit by a speeding vehicle. Families seemed to be having a very nice time.

Great campground. Clean and well maintained. Great for quite get away. Kiids love it for biking and swimming. Our site o8 was good but people before us left lots of cigarette butts in firepit and on ground. Everything else was good. Very nice people at check-in.

We stayed on site 25. The site itself was clean and well-kept with some shade. It was level.
However, the spacing of the campsites was very cramped. We were within 5 ft of a camp site on all sides of us. Zero privacy. There were other sites with more privacy and better spacing we will choose if we return.
The camp hosts were pleasant. Good hiking trails inside the campground but extremely difficult to locate trail heads.
