Even with the cut backs, the bathrooms were open and the trash was emptied. We've spent many nights up there and we love it. Let's start funding our parks again.

We were there the day the campsites opened for the season. Unfortunately we weren’t able to take a shower because of a fire in the forest and there was no power. I loved seeing the deer roam through the campsites in the morning and the many trees between the sites giving us more privacy.

Big Meadows campground's popularity is not for no reason! :-) It was a very enjoyable stay, the rangers are very present around the campground, making sure everyone is following the rules and keeping other campers safe.
May have been a one-off event, but there were high winds during our stay and I remember thinking "wow I can't believe there's no fire-ban," then upon returning home (getting phone service) and checking my email -- Shenandoah National Park DID have a full fire-ban the weekend I stayed and the rangers just failed to mention it & did not stop anyone. Still a 5 star experience. :-)
