Overall is a very nice campground and had a positive experience, unfortunately the campsite we booked (walk to tent) was situated on a bed of rocks and the only surface area for our tent was entirely rocks and the stakes would not go in the ground whatsoever. We found it disappointing and frustrating to book a campsite which physically would not allow us to stake in our tent. Additionally we specifically chose a campsite near a bathroom and when we arrived the bathroom was out of service and the next closest bathroom was quite far and inconvenient. Beautiful park and campground regardless

Staff was amazing. Bathrooms could use some work and I wish they had a shower house that was free.

Easy check in. Close to big meadow lodge for grabbing food or coffee in the morning. Got in late so no one was on duty so I would recommend knowing or having your site number saved. There is very little cell reception so you won’t be able to look it up once you are there. Other NP campgrounds I have been to typically have an after hours list with your site on it or an envelope with your name on it that contains site information. Not a huge deal just something I think may help people out in the future

Great facility located near many of the park’s most popular attractions. Appreciated the new bear box for each site. Restrooms were convenient and clean.

Site location right across from bathroom. Only downside is most of the grass needs mowed. It’s knee high in big sections

Large campground, well equipped with potable water and dump station. Well paved (newly paved) roads throughout. Nice to walk the Meadows across the way and a quick drive to Hawksbill peak hike.
Get a blackberry milkshake at the Wayside

Even though there was a paving project while we were there it was still a good stay. Moves required for the project were handled smoothly. I was disappointed to learn that the campground will be concessionaire operated beginning next year. The move from NPS operated to concessionaire is never a good move in my opinion. National parks should not be privatized and made into “for profit” operations. That is exactly what happens when concessionaires enter the national park picture. Park employees care about the park and the visitor experience. Concessionaires care about profit margin. It’s as simple as that.

Great location for camping and it is close to the visitor center and store. Moreover, there is a shower facility. This is not the first time we visited here.

The walk-to sites are the best for a more private, true camping feel. Everything is well-maintained, the rangers are super helpful, and the campground has excellent proximity to great hikes and a fun night sky program. We also like having some of our meals at the lodge, which you can drive or walk to, to cut down on campsite prep/dishes, and because they have a lovely great room and sometimes live music.
