We love Big Meadows every time of year. It is beautiful and unique. Every campsite is different and we have loved them all— even when they’re closer together, we still feel like we have privacy and a pretty spot. We’ve heard owls calling right above our tent on many occasions, and it is just magical.
The rangers are always SO kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. We once locked our keys in our car during a crazy storm, and they were miraculously able to find help for us. A number of years ago, we went to a talk about the night sky at the amphitheater and we still talk about how cool it was.
The bathrooms are always in order, the store has a great variety for when we’ve forgotten crucial items or wanted to pick up local beers.
Highly highly recommend. This is one of my absolute favorite places.

I was not your typical camper, instead an AT thru hiker who camped here. Site was fine but there was no potable water available except in the bathrooms. I also had to pay for a shower despite paying $30 for a site.

There were some campers near our site that were flying a drone. Didn't think that was allowed.

I love being there when it's so quiet (11/18). The number of deer wandering around out-numbered the people there. My bathroom was clean and warm and I had it all to myself!

everything was magnificent. we understand that the use of generators, even inverters, during the high season harms ambient noise and neighbors. however, it was mid-November, so the nights were cold in the mountains, and use was restricted from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.... that's not much! also the circulation areas are narrow to move back into the location. We have a 25ft Airstream trailer pulled by a Toyota Tundra truck and the backing-up maneuver is perilous.

Camp sites are near Big Meadows and have trails to Dark Hollow Falls. Trails are easy to follow and often see wildlife near or on them (deer, chipmunks, fox, rabbits, owls). Sites are easy to drive to, and bathrooms are close to walk to. Park Rangers usually are on duty at the entrance to the campsite. It is a nice place Im glad I've been able to visit a couple times now.

It was a nice campsite, close to the bathrooms and trash bins. That was the negative too, the light from the bathroom was strong, so were the noises from folks dumping trash after midnight. I would recommend pitching the tent more towards the back to help with the light.
