Beautiful, peaceful campsite with lots of hiking trails around it. Deer were grazing as we checked in. Lots of beautiful birds around as well. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked with soap and TP. Gorgeous area.

We spent four days at Big Meadows Campground and would happily return. The campground was one of my favorite parts of the trip, and Shenandoah’s scenery was beautiful. We especially enjoyed driving Skyline Drive, stopping at the overlooks, and having a beer at the lodge in the evening.
Smoke and haze affected some of the views during our visit, which was disappointing but obviously beyond the park’s control. Our main frustration was a nearby campsite where two families, including several children, appeared to be sharing a site meant for fewer people. They arrived noisily, and marijuana smoke also drifted through the area. When my husband mentioned the disturbance to the camp host, his concern was brushed off. I would have appreciated more attention to campsite occupancy and noise so that everyone could enjoy the campground.
Despite that experience, Big Meadows was a lovely place to stay, and the park itself was well worth visiting. I recommend both Shenandoah National Park and the campground, and I hope to return—perhaps when the weather is cooler.

Big Meadow is a gem! Nice camp sites, plenty of shade, water holes for cooling off on several trails, some campground privacy, decent ranger programs, conveniences and amenities if you want them, and numerous hikes to enjoy. What’s not to love about that!

We made a same day reservation on the road, and the entry was easy. Beautiful campground, with clean restrooms. Camp-spots are well-spaced. The camp hosts were very friendly, and helpful. When we arrived the wrong name was on our campsite, so I had to knock on the camp host door after 9pm. They assured me all was fine, since I had an email receipt and confirmation.
