Even though we had a lot of rain, we had a blast camping and enjoying nature. The trails are lovely, the meadow is beautiful, and the blackberry pie is a MUST!

Very easy and friendly check-in, campground is lovely, sites are a little close but spacious and well kept. Bathrooms are convenient and clean. There’s a small welcome center and convenience store (and gas!) at the end of the drive. Once a month they put on a star party in the lot across the drive which was a nice surprise. And hiking to red rose falls/dark hollow is available right from the campground. Overall a lovely stay. Can’t wait to go back!!

My only complaint is the $5 paid showers - flat fee of $5 for a 10-minute shower is a little pricey for me. That said, the showers are very nicely done and it’s clear that the park is reinvesting the money.

Our campsite was shady, which was appreciated but fairly uneven ground to set up a tent and of course somewhat rocky. Gnats were bothersome but no mosquitos bothered me. Ice and wood readily available as were showers. However $5 for a shower that really didn't take the full 10 minutes seemed excessive. Appreciated the laundry as the tent leaked in a downpour. No cell service to speak of-- occasional texts sometimes received, unable to send. My carrier is Verizon. Fortunately someone in our group was able to get a weather report for the next morning and we were able to beat the coming rain getting packed up in time. Is there a way to allow campers to post descriptions or pictures of specific sites to help other campers choose their site? I will definitely return for more hiking!

The sites are quite small and close together but everyone was quiet after dark and we had a peaceful stay.

Really nice campground with great staff and lots of deer! There are many nice trails close by and visiting the Lodge and seeing the valley views from the balcony there is always a highlight.

I have mixed feelings about Big Meadows. The positives: it is in the heart of Shenandoah and has all the amenities around it - Ranger station, camp store, gas, showers, laundry, food, bar, etc. The cons: a lot of people come here on the weekend. There are no spots open. Every spot is filled with people playing music, kids running around & large family reunions. Not too much privacy and not serene. It’s a party for sure. The weekdays are better, but it is still quite a populated campground. I recommend getting a spot where no generator is allowed – the thought of several generators running all day make me crazy.
