About Turkey Run Ridge Group

Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground has nine wooded group campsites which can accommodate a maximum of 25 to 40 people per site. Located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 mi southwest of Washington, D.C., the park's land was set aside during the Great Depression. In 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams, and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Parking is limited at Turkey Run Ridge Campground. It is recommended that visitors carpool when camping at Turkey Run Ridge Campground.

We love using Turkey Run for our scouting events. The bathrooms are clean and in good order. The site has nice shade and plenty of space for a big group. There are several trails to hike too. I really love that the parking is close to the campsites there- which works great for small kids or bringing a lot of gear.

Turkey Run Ridge Group campsites are one of the best locations for Scouting campouts in Northern Virginia. The nearby trails suit a wide range of experience levels, from Kindergarteners to experienced hikers. Additionally, the value is hard to beat!

The campsite was large and the bathrooms were nice. It took us a long time to find the water spigot and it turned out, it was in a
campsite far from ours. We also had a giant widow maker in our site causing us to lose camping space due to not wanting to sleep in its fall radius. We also had two copperheads (legit copperheads, not water snakes) Sat night come through camp.

This is a group site, with a number of picnic tables and fire rings. The site is close to the bathroom. It was quiet and peaceful. The service sink was pretty gross though.

What a fantastic camp site for large groups. We had a couple sites for out Cub Pack and it was exactly what we needed. Plenty of hiking trails and open space for cubs to be cubs.

Great group site. Camped during spring and enjoyed mostly clear camping area, great fire rings, plenty of space and nearby hiking options.

We don't go camping very often, but this experience was great so we might start doing it more! Camped in April during our Spring Break, so not crowded at all. The site had multiple areas to set up tents on level surfaces. Bathrooms were conveniently located, heated, and had hot water. The visitor center staff was friendly and helpful, and the hiking trails were well kept. We had an enjoyable experience.

Bathrooms were great, but the lights from the overflow lot need to be turned down, they were too bright to even begin to adjust to the darkness. They shouldnt be that tall, throwing that much light, or that blue. Maybe if they were amber or red it'd be more okay, but the bright blue lights were detrimental to the experience.

It's an absolutely great park, the group campsites are excellent, and the staff was superb when we were doing on line planning.

My issue: We got there and found out all the water faucets and fountains had been turned off for winter and this was never mentioned on the website. We had a soft water bag that we could fill in the bathroom sink, but other troops hard hard bottles and were just out of luck.

I went to the visitor center to see if there were alternate fill points, like a custodian's sink and was told there were none.

Since our visit was part of a bike ride, this could have been a trip ender w/o the lucky foresight of the water bag.

It should have been on the website.

Felt like we had the whole park to our selves, probably because it's the middle of winter. The campground was great and near running water and heated restrooms was a bonus. He had a great 5 mi hike before setting up camp. Would recommend to any scout troop for winter camping.
