Fantastic place. A drop into the middle of nowhere but so nicely developed for recreation and peacefulness. Definitely no cell service though.

Will be going back. Weekday when the crowds are not there - solid.
Views + wind in the trees + trout creeks nearby. Never been during the weekend uptick.

Had a great time camping at a absolute beautiful lake and location. Its quiet privaye site and the lake is awesome for fishing, swimming and boating. Stayed at site 47. Couple negatives is the marina store and gas pumps are closed, numerous non working water pumps on loop 2. Trail heads aren't maintained, nowhere close to get supplies and the loop 2 camp hostess' parked their boat in front of our water access from our site when. Numerous other sites were unoccupied and refused to move it. Not ideal when I have a toddler trying to swim and fish. This campground could be the best in the state but it appears to practically be abandoned by the federal gov. Such a shame you can tell.it used to be so nice.

The campground location and access to the lake are wonderful. The campground itself is in dire need of repairs and maintenance. The water supplies are broken and leak. The showers have no ventilation and therefore are humid and moldy. Simple rules such as the number of vehicles and people in the sites are not enforced and it is wearing on the facilities. Maneuvering in the park is actually difficult due to people parking just about anywhere. Firewood is very difficult to acquire locally and many people are transporting their own. We even had someone in our loop that ran a generator all night for several nights and no one ever enforced the rules. I have been visiting this campground yearly for almost 10 years and am dissappointed to see how much it has degraded over that time.

Know your route ahead of time, cell service will be intermitten if available at all.
From Covington, take 220 North to Hwy 39 and turn left on Hwy 39. Take Hwy 39 to Hwy 600 (Bolars Draft Road) and turn left on Hwy 600 towards the campgrounds. After about 7.5 miles turn right on Twin Ridge Drive for all campgrounds. Stay straight to head towards the store & marina, an overlook of the lake and McClintic Point.
**GPS often routes vehicles to take Richardson Gorge rd. via the Jackson River tpk. This route is NOT SUGGESTED for travel, especially when towing. It's a narrow dirt road with steep soft edges. Multiple accidents occur on this road each year.**
