This has always been our favorite place to camp, now reservation only which is hard for our family to do, marina is closed, so be campground closed, someone now at gate stopping you every time you come thru even though you have pass in window. Quiet time not observed overall campground has went downhill will be looking for new location for us.

This was our first visit and we loved our weekend camping here. Clean, spacious site, shaded, private and right on the lake. We will definitely be coming back!

We have been camping at Lake Moomaw for the past 25 years, and love the beautiful, peaceful area, the lake is always fantastic for kayaking and swimming. Biking and hiking are great too. It was wonderful how overgrowth of brush was cleaned out from the lake shore to the campsites it made launching the kayaks so much easier. We have noticed in the last few years that the beach and certain maintenance of the campsites has been neglected. Our water supply was leaking so bad we had to turn it off and on for our RV use because the ground became saturated plus it was a waste of water. The beach area needs to be cleaned up and refurbished, and of course it would have been nice to have a functional bath house there as well. The camp hosts did a good job keeping the bathrooms clean. We noticed in the last few years that the campsites are not checked and raked out if needed in preparation for the next occupant that was done in the past. So now we bring our own rake to spruce up the site before setting up and a trowel to clean up the fire pit. It would be nice to see some nature/ecology campfire talks or even a movie on Friday or Saturday night at the amphitheater geared towards the kids.

This was a stopping point, not a destination. Getting here was a bit of a challenge, because the sun had gone down, and there was a narrow road along the edge to go up. We got in, and set up no problem. The vault toilets were nearby and well stocked. This campground was fairly well populated, but we had no problem accessing our spot. We had a good view through the coverage of the night sky, and I was able to get some good photos of the moon.

The site was a standard, non-electric. It handled our vehicle well, and I'm not sure that it would have handled much more. We had the standard fire ring and tent pad. We also had a path to the water, which in the morning gave us some great views.

It certainly would have been more favorable to get here a couple hours earlier while we still had some light, so that the trip up was not as ... treacherous... but regardless, we had a good spot in a good area. I'm glad that we chose this location. I imagine that had we chosen this location as a destination, we would have been able to make some great use of the natural features around us.

Campground and bath house is very clean. I would love to see more electric sites by the water and water throughout.

The marina store is closed for this season so the Mountain Grove Store/Gas Station (on Rt 39, left off of Bolar Draft Rd) is the closest location for gasoline and necessities. It also has cell service at the parking lot. The only other location where cell service is reliably available within the campgrounds is near site #32 (Loop 1) down by the water. This spot has never failed me for Verizon service.
