About Stony Fork Campground

Stony Fork, tucked in a dense forest setting, is located at the foot of Big Walker Mountain beside the Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway. The East Fork of Stony Fork Creek winds through the campground, providing a serene setting for trout fishing and water play for visitors at the welcoming campground. The 1 mile Stony Fork Nature Trail takes campers through groves of pine and hardwoods, and the campground loop road makes for a scenic walk, too.

We had to leave in the middle of the night because the group across the street had decided to burn their garbage before going to bed and the night air was filled with acrid smoke from plastics and other materials. They kept throwing spray cans or something into their fire that made them explode and scare everyone within 2000ft. Campground was fairly full and two bath houses were closed for "Water issues". Well get someone to fix it. What kind of crap is it to close 50% of the bath houses but continue to fill the campground.

As in the past Stony Fork campground is very nice. The only thing was no heat in the bathrooms. I was thinking in the past like at the closed Grindstone campground had some heat.

I felt comfortable and at home at Stony Fork. The property is very well maintained, peaceful, and has ample amenities for campers, such as several potable water outlets and several shower/bathroom buildings. Steve, one of the camp hosts, was very friendly and helpful with local suggestions. Others were also friendly and helpful.

Campground host met me at entrance and gave directions to my reserved site. I did not use the facilities as I was just stopping for the night. The campground was quiet with plenty of space between sites. It definitely felt like I was alone in the forest with all the forest nighttime sounds. Slept very well.
