About Stony Fork Campground

Stony Fork, tucked in a dense forest setting, is located at the foot of Big Walker Mountain beside the Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway. The East Fork of Stony Fork Creek winds through the campground, providing a serene setting for trout fishing and water play for visitors at the welcoming campground. The 1 mi Stony Fork Nature Trail takes campers through groves of pine and hardwoods, and the campground loop road makes for a scenic walk, too.

We have been camping at Stony Fork Campground for many years. It has become our home away from home. It is peaceful, serene, clean, well kept, and the volunteer hosts are great, especially Jack Goins and Keith Spencer. They are the best!! They work hard to ensure that all of us are well taken care of.

This was a lovely campground with all types of site - no utilities, water, and water & electricity. Roads were very good and easy to travel with a trailer. Great looking grass. Has an area that is in a flood area so have to be aware of weather forecast. We were there when rained heavily and water went over low water bridges. Hosts were out checking on conditions overnight and early the next morning. Our campsite had no problems. Loved the campground.

Nice campsites, most are shaded with wooded surroundings. I would be careful in times of potential flooding since the lower and higher number campsites are at low ground and near the stream that meanders through the campground.
The dump station needs work. The center station with access to both sides was cemented over when we were there in June leaving only one small dump area to the left. It was just far enough away from that center station which had the rinse water working, but the hose was too short to reach the dump station and no way to add a hose to extend it.

Wonderful campground, frustrating that we didn't know until we arrived that the electricity was out and no attempt was made to contact us in advance so we could make arrangements or move us to another site (was told it was full which we do understand, but still frustrating). Campsite table is also very far back from fire ring with no way to move it closer. Would have been helpful to know ahead of time so we could prepare accordingly.
