About Stony Fork Campground

Stony Fork, tucked in a dense forest setting, is located at the foot of Big Walker Mountain beside the Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway. The East Fork of Stony Fork Creek winds through the campground, providing a serene setting for trout fishing and water play for visitors at the welcoming campground. The 1 mile Stony Fork Nature Trail takes campers through groves of pine and hardwoods, and the campground loop road makes for a scenic walk, too.

Our third visit to Stony Fork Campground was just as excellent an experience as the first two. Dean, the campground host, was welcoming and helpful. He was happy to provide brochures for places to explore and offer his advice on personal experiences. This trip we were on site 43: it's directly across from one of the bath houses, has an expansive grassy area behind the lot, and is directly beside a horse shoe pit (which delighted my husband). Stony Fork is wonderful for individuals, couples and families. The stocked trout stream seems to be a favorite among park visitors. We can't wait to return for a 4th visit next year.

I loved the place but I must say the camp hosts have a lot to be desired. They should greet the campers, see if they any questions, and SMILE and not act like they don’t want to be there. They would stop and talk to campers they must have known. It is a pretty place with big spaces and woods.

Quiet campground, even on a busy summer weekend. The sites are not too close and allow for some privacy. The sites are large however some are a bit tight for the larger campers. This causes some folks to park personal vehicles on grass and/or road shoulder. There are several bathhouse facilities, clean and in pretty good shape.

We had a great experience at Stony Fork! The sites are big, roomy, shaded, and have asphalt parking. We were at site #48, super close to a bathhouse which was clean each time we went in. Showers are hot but the push button makes it kind of difficult to wash your hair. The campground was very quiet despite the number of campers there. The 1 mile trail through the campground was very nice, simple enough my 3 year old hiked the entire way. Crystal Springs Recreation Area is about 15 mins from the campground and was not a disappointment. It was great for a picnic and hiking! Also, we have full cell service (Verizon) while at the campground. I highly recommend Stony Fork and can’t wait to plan our next trip!
