Many campsites need gravel, they are terribly dusty. It is a beautiful campground and hosts do a great job keeping things clean. Loved it.

A nice campground. Stayed here for two nights in mid August. Lots of ripe huckleberries nearby ready for picking. Enjoyed hiking the East Crater trail to Junction Lake, visiting the nearby Natural Bridges, and spending time at Goose Lake. However, we were somewhat disappointed by our site, #22. It was small compared to all of the surrounding campsites and the ground wasn't flat for the tent or picnic table. We would have preferred to have stayed in almost any one of the many other available campsites, but the camp host wouldn't let us switch our reservation. It was close to the water and bathroom, which was nice, but I wish there was better information (like photos) to aid in selecting a good campsite during the reservation process.

We went for much needed sibling camp out. With dogs and we felt very relaxed and respected. We aren’t the quietest group but we try. The hosts were amazing. We had great time10 gallons of huckleberries.

Beware not to go beyond this flag because you can get arrested for crossing the border without proper entry.

Mt. Adams Shack.
Now with snow.
Just say it out loud and you can already feel your feet going numb. This is not a cabin. This is not a shelter. This is where you end up when you are drunk, broke, desperate, and the mountain has decided to see what kind of man you really are.
The snow makes it worse, which somehow makes it better. Without snow, the shack is just a collapsing pile of boards in a field of rocks. With snow, it becomes a destination for men who have lost arguments with money, weather, women, trucks, courts, employers, and basic planning.
The mountain is beautiful in the way a frozen judge is beautiful. Huge. White. Silent. Absolutely unmoved by your situation. You can stand there with one glove, half a bottle, and a plan that died three miles back, and Mt. Adams will not blink.
And then there’s the shack.
The Mt. Adams Shack sits in the snow like it owes child support. Crooked, gray, and somehow still standing out of spite. The roof is tired. The walls are mostly suggestions. The door looks like it has been kicked in by weather, animals, and at least one man named Randy.
Amenities include snow in the yard, snow by the door, snow inside if the wind feels ambitious, and enough cold air to make you confess things nobody asked about.
Heat? Not unless shame counts.
Blankets? Bring your own or negotiate with hypothermia.
Bathroom? Anywhere the snow is clean enough to lie to yourself.
Security? Nobody is robbing you here. They know you have nothing.
Complimentary ice? Brother, look around.
This is the kind of place where a man wakes up at 2:40 a.m., covered in snow dust, still wearing his boots, and realizes the bottle froze before he did. He looks through a missing plank at the moonlit slope and thinks, “Well, at least the rent is right.”
That is the genius of the Mt. Adams Shack. It does not pretend. It does not comfort. It does not offer rustic charm. It offers exposure, regret, and a dry-ish corner if you are humble enough to accept it.
Final Thoughts:
Mt. Adams Shack is not lodging. It is rock bottom with snow accumulation. It is free because no sane person has figured out how to charge for it. It is always available because even broke drunks usually have one friend with a couch.
Five stars for price.
One star for warmth.
Zero stars for plumbing.
Ten stars if you are out of money, out of options, and too cold to make another bad decision.
Bring a bottle. Bring a blanket. Bring boots. And if the snow starts coming through the wall, do not complain. That is the premium suite. To get there, find the mountain and climb. The climb is free. The shack is free. The snow is free. The consequences are also free, but they may stay with you longer.

Site 27 was perfect, hosts were great and there are plenty of trails right from the campground to wander.

The only thing we had a problem with was there being no showers but other than that, it was a great campsite
