The campground is magnificent, set among huge evergreens with the lake surrounded by mountains. What made the whole experience even better was the professionalism and obvious care for the experience of campers demonstrated by the campground host Michelle Barringer.

Lake Kachess has been our families go‑to camping spot for the past 7 years, and it never disappoints. The lake is absolutely beautiful, the air is crisp, and the campsites have that perfect rustic charm that keeps us coming back. A special shout‑out to Michelle, our “adopted” Camp Host, who was truly awesome — friendly, helpful, and always making the experience even better. This place feels like home in the mountains.

The site and lake were both beautiful, really really worth a visit.

Great campground-- large, but plenty of space per site.
Didn't realize that there were no showers, but we managed fine.
Beautiful lake for paddleboarding and hanging out.

Lovely campsite nestled into the mountains one hour and 15 minutes outside of Seattle. Box Canyon spot #172 has a fire pit, picnic table, space for two large tents or three medium tents, and enough parking for two cars. The spot is partially shaded, about 30 second walk to a water spigot, and 30 second walk to the bathrooms. Easy access to the lake and to stargazing at night.

The three most important factors In real estate and camping…location-location-location.
Lake Kachess has the most important factors covered.
Amenities…no so much…
Toilet facilities get an F-…not clean and no lights…ARRGH!

Camp host was very nice and helpful, Kachess is beautiful when there is water in the lake!
Site183 has pros and cons related to being close to the day use area / non-motorized boat launch.
Pro’s it’s close to the lake/you can hear the creek when things are quiet at night.
Con’s there are shortcut “trails” from the group camp through 183 to the day use area that people use without hesitation. (Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with the sites reserved for folks with disabilities as they tend to be near bathrooms and/or other facilities.)
The day use parking lot is chaos on sunny Saturdays and people will use the site to turn around and will try and park in the site. Again, a trade off for being adjacent to the day use area.
More signage would probably help prevent some of the issues.

From Seattle, travel east on I-90 approximately 62 miles, or from Cle Elum travel west on I-90 approximately 20 miles. Take exit 62 and follow Kachess Lake Road for 5.5 miles to the campground, which is on the right.
Kachess is accessible via I-90, which is approximately 14 miles to the north, providing access to major cities and routes in the region.

General
- Water levels in Kachess Lake and Little Kachess Lake vary during the summer
- First-come, first-served sites may be available
- Off-road vehicle use is not permitted in the campground
- Reserved campsites will be held until check-out time (noon) on the day following your scheduled arrival.
- The campground may be full and no accommodations may be available after a no show is processed.
- Citations may be issued for exceeding Max Occupancy and campsite footprint
- Pets must be leashed in the campground at all times
- Firewood is available to purchase at the campground for $10.00/bundle.

- Don't Move Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination. - Water is available in this location via a handpump and/or water spigot. Please DO NOT attach your RV hoses to the water systems we provide. These are made available to you to fill your water jugs/buckets and take back to your site to use. If you need to fill your RV water tanks, please fill your tank before you come to the campground.
