About Hamma Hamma Cabin

The Hamma Hamma Cabin is a historic cabin that offers guests a tranquil setting to relax and recreate. Formerly a guard station, the cabin was built from 1936-1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The facility was used as an administrative site for Forest Service fire and trail crews. The site is nominated to the National Register of Historic Places for the skill and craftsmanship that went into its construction and architecture. The cabin is open year-round and is typically accessible by car; however, snowy conditions may require alternative transportation such as cross-country skis or snowshoes. Many amenities are offered, so guests only need to bring a few of their own supplies for an enjoyable stay.

What Guests Are Saying

The Hamma Hamma Cabin offers a cozy, well-stocked retreat with a charming historical character and comfortable amenities like a flushing toilet. Guests appreciate the beautiful surroundings, easy access to hiking trails, and the warm atmosphere provided by the propane fireplace, even though some lighting issues and occasional propane odors have been noted. While some maintenance concerns exist, such as the need for a roof repair and improvements to the propane system, many visitors express a strong desire to return, enjoying the cabin's rustic charm and communal respect among guests.

Simply perfect! Just go and enjoy. Please leave the cabin a little cleaner than how you found it.

We enjoyed the rustic nature of the Hamma Hamma Cabin. The lack of wifi, cell coverage, and electricity did not bother us. In fact, the gas lamps with mantles brought back memories of staying in a mountain cabin as a child. The 1 1/2 mile loop trail, Living Legacy Loop, by the cabin was a great walk without having to drive the car. Unfortunately, we had only one night (all that was available). Next time we will try for at least 2 nights.

it is a shame that you are removing the outside water supply
the extra water made it easy to wash and clean

Road was closed, no word from anyone, drove in very hazardous conditions to find road blocked from massive tree downfall from 3-4 weeks ago. No word before or after! What kind of operation doesn't provide any kind of information after 3+ weeks!

Four of us (2 couples) spent two nights in early November at Hamma-Hamma cabin. It was delightful. The gas fireplace kept the whole cabin cozy. Al the gas appliance and lights worked well. The mattresses with great. Remember to bring all your water including enough to wash dishes. The cabin was clean when we arrived and we left is clean for the next guests. The lack of electricity and absence of wifi contributed to the sense of being away and being together.

The 1.5 mile Living Legacy Trail offered an easy and delightful loop right from the cabin. The trailhead for 7.2 mile round trip Lake Lena hike was a 5 minute drive further down the road

Although we read about the mice visits in the guest book we did not see any or evidence of any activity like mouse droppings. We were very careful to keep all food interesting to mice in the car or in the refrigerator.

We will go back - and thanks for offering this sweet cabin built by the CCC to the public at such an affordable rate.
