What Guests Are Saying
Takhlakh Lake Campground offers stunning scenery, with beautiful views of Mount Adams and a serene lake, making it a lovely spot for camping and hiking. The campground is well-maintained, with clean facilities and friendly hosts. However, visitors should be cautious of wildlife, like rodents, and prepare for a rough drive in, as well as the requirement to pack out trash and bring their own water.

We recently made a reservation for an RV site 24, which says it should fit RV length 33 ft. When we arrived, there’s no way our 27 ft trailer could fit the site. It’s definitely not long enough. Since it was late, we didn’t want to disturb the campground host so we found a first come, first serve site. The next morning, we paid for the FCFS campsite and told the campground host he can cancel and release our original site 24 since we will not use it. We know he released it since we saw the sign on the site post that it was available.
Since there was no WiFi service at the campground, we requested a refund through recreation.gov on the app after the trip. The refund would have to be determined via the campground host per the app.
The campground host denied the refund. We didn’t expect the first night to be refunded so was just hoping for a partial refund for the nights we double paid for both sites due to the falsely advertised site length at least.
Disappointed that that couldn’t be accommodated. Make sure you double check the RV site length before coming here.

Quiet, secluded campground. Great views of Mt Adams. Stars were bright at night and the sunrise was beautiful, so I’d recommend visiting when skies are clear.

The road is VERY BAD!!! DONT LET ANY REVIEW DECEIVE YOU. that 6ish miles of unpaved coming from trout lake has so many HUGE POTHOLES its crazy. Take it EXTREMELY SLOW. Also the sun hits through trees its hard to spot so dont speed up thinking they ended, just around the corner will be tons more. The last bit of pavement after the final turn is relieving though.
Some pavement is warbled but just watch for their markings saying to slow down on the road itself. No signs 👎
Other than that. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST CAMPGROUNDS IVE EVER VISITED. THE BEST 👌 VIEW FROM A LAKE TO A MOUNTAIN EVER. ITS PHENOMENAL AND ITS SOOOO CLOSE.
The little loop around the lake and up the lava beds DO IT!!! SO FREAKING WORTH IT. clear days you've got a GREAT shot of Rainier and if you know what youre looking for eastern edge of st helens.
Almost none of the sites get a view of the mtn and only a small handful of sites have a view of the lake. So get reserved early if yall want something other than just trees.
Plus we went on the last "open" wknd and there were literally no mosquitoes. Chatted up some other frequent campers and they said mosquitoes are no joke and almost left early in mid august because of them.
Pack plenty of water and double even triple check items bringing cause trips into town are nearly 4 hours if you forget something...that dang road.
But the views from all over are stunning regardless.
Oh and no review said it
..but they all have brand new tables at each site and a level pad for tents. Great feature!
Its a great spot and ill be going again in my lifetime. No doubt.
Ps we did it in a Chrysler TC minivan. Came from spokane so had to be mindful of gas or would've done it in a truck or jeep even.

The lake is easy to access. However, the parking spots are quite limited.

I normally love this spot. I've been coming here since the 80s and never had issues like this year with a camp host. Very aggressive and threatened law enforcement for minor stuff such as a light string hung up to keep people from cutting through the campsite. When I called the ranger station to make a report they were already aware of the hosts Mary/Beri because they had several complaints about their aggressive and threatening behaviors. Please train the host staff better and not to be so aggressive to campers that aren't breaking any laws and minding their own business. When my husband stated the interaction ruined his trip, the host responded "Good!" Who does that as a customer service based position?

Site 38 was a wonderful site. It was close to the water to launch kayaks. The view of the lake was tremendous through the trees.
The camp hosts were personable and helpful.
