Second time here. Compared to other forest service cabins, this one is well maintained with a shower (new shower head) propane heat lighting and fridge. As always I cleaned the glass on the wood stove. Greys River road is a well travelled thorofare. In dry weather the dust from the road hangs thick in the air.

We love the cabin! This is our 2nd time at deer creek. We came early in June and missed the horses. The woodpecker in the wall made the stay even more interesting!

An amazing spot. More well stocked than I expected. When we went, (6/22) the propane fridge wasn't working, but it wasn't a big deal for us. We kept the drinks in the ice cold creek and kept the rest in our cooler. Beautiful isolation.

Deer Creek is a great little cabin located in a beautiful part of the forest, with amazing views from the front porch. It's right off the FS road and easy to get to. Something to keep in mind is that the kitchen is very small and contains few pots/pans/utensils, so be sure to bring what you need to prepare meals. There is plenty of wood for the wood-burning stove, as well as a propane heater and lighting. The bathroom with shower and hot water (when water is operational during the warmer months) is a major plus. The cabin is close to Alpine, WY which has a great grocery store for any supplies you might need. The FS has done a great job of keeping it close to what it looked like when it was built in the 1930's and has a lot of charm. I've stayed in a number of these FS cabins in various regions, and this is among one of my favorites for access, beautiful setting, historic architecture, and amenities.

This is a lovely property with a ton of room! Initially I thought this was one of those cabin communities with like 6 cabins in a loop, but no it’s just a single cabin with a good plot of land.
There were two picnic tables, an out house, two sheds, an OHV trailhead, fire pit, large stack of cut wood for use, and the cabin itself.
WARNING: YOU NEED A CODE to get in. I had gotten a lot of emails saying I would get a final email 4 days before with a code but I never saw that email. So before your trip CALL THEM to get the code. I never saw the inside the of the cabin but the lot was beautiful and I’m excited to come back and try again!

General
- This facility is experiencing a TEMPORARY WATER OUTAGE and intermittent construction on site. Please bring all the water you’ll need for your visit, including drinking water. Due to this the internal Bathroom facilities are also not accessible. There is however a pump toilet available directly adjacent to the building.4-7 days prior to your reservation you will receive an e-mail with your cabin code, condition report and a rules and regulations page. Please read through the rules and regulations page carefully. Fill out and return the completed condition report to the Greys River Ranger District following your stay. If you have any questions please contact the District Office at any time Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM (excluding weekends and Federal Holidays) at 671 N. Washington, Afton, WY 83110 or by phone at (307)886-5300.
- Spring and fall access is not guaranteed, depending on weather and road conditions
- Please bring garbage bags; this is a 'pack it in, pack it out' facility
- You are responsible for cleaning the cabin, please leave it at least as clean as you found it or better. No smoking within the cabins is permitted.
- This site cannot accommodate any additional RV’s or Trailers due to the capacity of the septic system.
- Winter access is by snowmobile only on a groomed trail
- No cell phone coverage or electricity is available.
- In the winter no water is available, bring plenty for drinking, cooking and cleaning. In winter, no water is available
- Off-road vehicles are allowed on designated trails only. A Wyoming ORV or snowmobile permit is required for each vehicle. The permits and free Motor Vehicle Use Maps are available online, the District Office or Alpine Visitor Center in Alpine.
- Beware of poisonous chemicals used to control rodent population
- Forest Service horses may be in the pasture (typically throughout June). Do not feed Forest Service horses, and watch young children if horses are nearby. The cabin is surrounded by the pasture without any separation, so loose horses may get into anything left outside, including garbage or vehicles. You may choose to unpack your vehicle at the cabin but then park it outside the gate. Public use stock corral is available at the back of the station, water access: Deer Creek runs east of the cabin, bring your own water bucket. Hay brought onto the Forest must be certified weed-free. Please remove any unused hay when you leave the cabin. Out of state horses must have a current Coggins test.
- Bears frequent the area; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle, making sure to leave nothing exposed.
- Firewood at this location is for use at this cabin only. Don't Move Firewood: Help prevent the spread of tree-killing pests in our national forests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
