Sherman Guard Station and Bunkhouse

I’ve camped near this guard station for years. Rented this year for our group of 8. We loved our stay. Rustic and simple with lots of history. This is a pack in/pack out. Cleanliness is dependent on the people before you - unfortunately the people before us didn’t leave it very clean.

There is water in the cabins, low pressure, from a well. Several of our group drank it without issue. There is also a spigot in front of the main cabin. There are two fire pits, one for the bunkhouse and one for the main cabin. Bring a shovel. There was plenty of wood but we brought our own. Parking is ample and we were able to park two trucks and a 24ft enclosed trailer without issue inside the main compound. Close the gates at night. There are cattle around and we had two large bulls walking our fence line morning and eve.

You may have cell coverage depending on your carrier. If not, you can get service two hundred yards back up the road at the forest entrance in the large parking lot.

The cabins were comfortable with basic cooktops, kitchen tables, and bunks for four. Both have propane fridges. The one in the bunkhouse was on, so we used that one. Bunks were functional and solid. Mattresses had covers that were clean. I recommend a light pad and sleeping bag. Both cabins had bathrooms with running water and showers. There is an on demand water heater in the main cabin, but we didn’t try to use it.

Overall it’s a really enjoyable stay for groups who don’t mind a rustic experience. It’s a great facility and I wish we had more supplies and tools to do a deeper clean and some upkeep. We will be back.

The locations and accommodations were much nice than I expected. I little farther from Jackson Hole than I thought, but there was plenty of great hiking around the camp.

Always a favorite. This year the creek was very low and the fishing was challenging, but the cabin was clean. I did not go over to the bunkhouse at all.

This place was awesome and we were stoked that there were two cabins so we could share the spaces with our friends. It's still beautiful in the snow and the wood stoves were awesome. I wish there were some directions on how to run the propane heaters but other than that it was totally awesome!

Sherman cabin was extremely easy to get to. It was very comfortable and well appointed inside and very clean. The premises were very interesting. We enjoyed our stay and will return in the future.

Plenty of wood on site, cabin was well equipped, electricity was very limited (30-45min) but was nice to have while it lasted. Beautiful location would definitely recommend.
