Overall great place to camp and ride. Better have shoes and solid feet due to the rocks. Abnormal amounts of rain had the pens a mess and several bogs… but we will be back

It rained a lot which isn’t anybody’s fault. It would like to go back when the weather is better but it’s so hard to get a reservation there. It would be nice if they would mow the grass or at least let the horses staying there graze it.

When we arrived at Hunter Campground, there was a truck and horse trailer in our spot and the camp host was not there. We waited for hours and eventually had to park in an open area outside the campground. When the camp host finally arrived at dark and pulled up to tell us we couldn't park where we were, they were rude and since we didn't have horses, started telling us that the campground was only for people with horses, even though the Recrecation.gov site clearly states the campground is available for use by anyone. The host knew there was someone in our reserved spot when we told them that was why we were parked where we were and they were not accommodating at all, but eventually said we could stay were we parked since we were only staying the night. Very disappointed as this would have been a nice stop if we had been able to park in our reserved spot, or in the campground.

From Buffalo, travel west on Highway 16 for 13 miles. Turn off Highway 16 west onto Forest Road 19, where you will travel approximately 2 miles to the campground.
Hunter Campground is accessible approximately 13 miles west of Buffalo via Highway 16.
Elevation: 2390 feet
15 mi drive to downtown Buffalo (about 25 min)
