About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

I like Gros Venture Campground. It is a nice park with paved RV sites. My problem is I need electric for medical machinery I use. Even though I knew that, I wanted to try the camp out. If there were utilities there, it would be much better. I like that it is close to Jackson and The Teton Park as well.

Campground staff was extremely helpful and made my stay totally fantastic - - except for the issue noted below!!
Campground programs were excellent and very informative.

My major problem was the campfire smoke which significantly affected my ASTHMA. Being forced to stay in my fully self contained RV only in campgrounds is a serious hardship, as I could park in countless locations and leave no trace of my overnight stay if there were some permit available for parking in areas that are so thoroughly posted!!! I even had a HEPA air purifier, but it was not enough. I had hoped to spend time in Yellowstone as well, but instead - - I simply drove back to home in Portland. I clearly need a better air cleaner to survive in smoky campgrounds - - hopefully I can find one !!!

Our family enjoyed tent camping at Gros Ventre! Friendly and helpful staff. No major wildlife encounters other than hungry chipmunks. Pretty easy drive to Jenny Lake and Jackson (traffic to Jackson was heavy). Fun to ride scooters and walk around the large scenic loops in the evening. We will be back!

The dump station is a public health risk. I can’t believe this can be as bad as it is in our national parks system. I reported it to the parks management and hoping this gets resolved / attention quickly.

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
