About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Beautiful area and campground. I do wish the national park service would create a bike path from this campground to the main road to join up with other bike path. Would be fantastic.
The people volunteering/working there were fantastic. Signage in the campground was odd. There was supposed to be a trail to the river - never found it. Would be nice if there were paths connecting all the camp spots as well as each section had a trail to the river.
Didn’t realize it was so far from everything in Teton even though it’s technically part of Teton NP.

Great location central to Tetons. The people running the grounds are supper friendly and helpful. They sell firewood and ice onsite. The bathrooms are kept clean. There aren’t showers but there is a rec center in Jackson you can get a day pass for and that includes access to their pools, hot tub, gym, etc.

Good location to Jackson hole and grand Tetons. Our site had lots of sage brush very close to camping area, so not a great view unless you like sage brush. Small parking space. Quiet.

Upon reading other reviews I really expected this location to be lackluster at best but I figured we just needed a spot to stay on our way into Grand Teton the following day. I was pleasantly surprised by the campground and had no complaints. The backdrop of the mountains was spectacular, the campground was clean & the staff on site was incredibly friendly and helpful. We were able to utilize the dump area with no issue on our way out and it made entering the park the next morning a total breeze.

This campground is pretty close to Jackson and was quite far from Jenny Lake and the center of the national park but I really liked it. I had a lot of space around my site. It was pretty loud at the end of the campground near the group sites so I would recommend staying away from those sites. There is some road noise and noise from planes. Apparently there are some moose nearby but I didn't see any. The man who checked us in (Ed? from Florida) was very helpful. I did see the site next to me get a warning for not storing food properly.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
