About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Great stay at Gros Ventre Campground!

We stayed for three nights in tent spot #226 and were very pleased with our experience. The site was clean, spacious, and provided a comfortable distance from neighboring campers—perfect for our setup.

The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful from check-in to departure. The location is ideal: you're just 30 minutes from the Jenny Lake area in Grand Teton National Park and only 20 minutes from dining and shopping in Jackson. On top of that, the bathhouses were clean, complete with flush toilets and easily accessible potable water. We would definitely stay here again!

They pack you in like sardines. We could reach out and touch our neighbors tent if we wanted to. Bathrooms were filthy and they charge per night what you could get for two Nights in Yellowstone. We have camped all over MT/WY and this is one of the worst camp sites we have been to.

We really enjoyed the river! Bear lockers are super specious. We got two, full sized coolers plus dry food and other items inside. Ranger programs were enjoyable. Only comment is that tent stakes were trickier with the dry, rocky ground. Overall, great experience!

Big campground with nice views of the Tetons over the Blacktail Butte. Very close to Jackson and Mormon Row for a great sunrise. Good prices and fairly less populated than the other campgrounds. The actual site was clean and nice with great bathrooms also. Definitely recommend.

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
