About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

This is such a great location, located somewhat in the center of all the most popular hikes and scenic areas. The camp staff were super helpful as far as suggesting places to visit and setting up camp. I really enjoyed the view. I stayed in two different camp spots for two different nights. I will return on the next trip west!

I have stayed in the Gros Ventre NPS site over a period of at least 30 years quite a number of times. It is the only reasonably price RV alternative left after Jackson, WY has become a development zone for the super rich. Used to stay in town and that site became a resort. Only place left in town for RV's with hookups is a long time spot that has a nightly rack rate of over $160. a night. Unfortunatly, there are only a few (less than 10) handicapped sites that do have electricity. When it is hot it will be very hot...consequently, and it certainly was over 90 degrees throughout most of my 9 day stay. Booking a site for any length of time means you have to move pretty well every night to a different spot due to complex online advance booking system. While you are there the Internet service (Mobile strength) is very erratic and spotty. A wonderful place, however, with dedicated staff .

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
