About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

I've stayed at Gros Ventre 3 times over the past 5 years, usually when I have friends in town who like the amenities of a bathroom. GVC is so close to town, with stunning views, wildlife and being in the trees is magical. The camp host was SO friendly, bathrooms were super clean and it was another awesome experience here. Highly recommend!

Well, while I love Gros Ventre campground, or used to, and have stayed there many times over the years, it's unfortunate that the quality of the campground has deteriorated. My campsite in Loop G site 355 was not a great site. It's difficult to find a good spot flat spot for a tent and there is no separate area that has been graded and flattened like many of the campsites. The table was located in a draw that wasn't flat either and it was sitting completely un-level, making cooking on my camp stove difficult. I propped the table up with a couple of rocks but it was still unsteady for sitting as well and as a 70 year old camper, I can't just drag it around to a flatter spot, of which there were none. I think budget cuts and staffing cuts have taken an unfortunate toll on our National Parks system. What a shame. The staff I met were very helpful, but I think most were volunteers which is great that they are there and I appreciate the work they do but you also need trained and paid staff and enough funds to keep the campgrounds in decent shape. I also got the feeling that there were a fair number of people camping that don't have much experience or respect for the requirements needed to make the campground safe for all. I saw violations of leaving food containers out unattended all day and with short staffing, really no way to monitor those problems. In time this will take a toll on the campground, the wild animals and the experience that people hope to get when they camp in a National Park. Kind of sad.

Stayed here before ascending the Grand Teton, and we were able to get a lot of rest beforehand since the campsites have decent privacy even though you are sharing the campground with hundreds of other campers. Gros Ventre is about half an hour from Jenny Lake, and an hour from the northern end of the park. Also about half an hour from Jackson, so pretty centrally located. Overall a beautiful campground with friendly staff and clean restrooms, and easy access to a river with swimming spots! Highly recommend and we will definitely be staying here again.

A spacious campground that is clean and staff are helpful. Hiking is rather limited from the campground but there is a short trail to the river.

Great campground we were very fortunate to get a site with electricity wish they had water at the sites but we made it,book early if you want the better sites, plenty of wildlife in the area and campground , dump stations are a little dated and need upgrading

Loved visiting the Tetons. Gros ventre campground was really well kept as well. Really enjoyed going into Jackson and horse back riding through spring creek ranch. We also enjoyed our hikes we did. Beautiful area around the Tetons!

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
