About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Site ok with a slight view of the mountains. Surrounded by loud generators unfortunately but they were all off by 10. Moose walked through the campground at dusk and surprised some people, getting quite close to them.

The staff were very friendly and accomodating! Also, the campground is well maintained, especially the A loop. No moose walking through camp, but just down the road a 2 mi there were plenty of moose to be seen.

It is a beautiful campground, great location, and great views from the right campsites. Unfortunately, due to vehicle problems we needed one night at the last minute am I able to secure the only spot in the campground. The particular spot we got was rather small and didn’t even have room for a tent outside of the vehicle spot. If you are able to plan ahead and choose your site carefully it is a wonderful campground, but I can’t say our experience was great, and this is due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control.

Who ever put in those bear boxes or approved their location should NEVER be allowed to work or given that job. On many of the sites, one can not negotiate their trailer properly with many of the boxes location. Who ever was quality control knows nothing about it.

Had a wonderful time the week we were there. Only had one neighbor complain about our generator. Though we were in a generator zone and it was around 4-6 pm when they complained about it. To cook things in a microwave in an rv a generator or power supply is needed. The rest of trip was great. Still five stars.

We stayed in site 352 G loop. The tent pad had plenty of room for two 2p backpacking tents. It is near a well kept bathroom. The site is open to the road but had enough privacy to the surrounding sites. Access to the river was easy from trails starting near the bathroom. We were lucky enough to have two cow moose go through the back of the site one morning.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
