About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Gros Ventre is an excellent campground at the base of the Tetons. This was the second time we stayed there. We booked late but were luck to get a site for two nights. We'll be back for sure.

We were first time campers and due to unavailability due to closures/time of year, we were limited on options. Gros Ventre was one of the only places with availability and after staying there, we were so grateful it worked out that way. Every employee we interacted with was so kind and friendly. The location is conveniently between the Tetons and Jackson. We booked spot G 372, which there were mixed reviews for. We were expecting the worst but honestly the spot was really great. The only negative thing is that the spot is advertised as a two car max, but it barely fits one. Other than that this campground was great. We even got to see moose grazing in loop C at one point!

One of the best sites I’ve stayed at. All of the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The site is always clean and quiet. Close to Jackson Hole but far enough out it’s peaceful.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
