About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

I've stayed at Gros Ventre 3 times over the past 5 years, usually when I have friends in town who like the amenities of a bathroom. GVC is so close to town, with stunning views, wildlife and being in the trees is magical. The camp host was SO friendly, bathrooms were super clean and it was another awesome experience here. Highly recommend!

Way too many people and almost zero quiet time. There were people arriving and leaving literally all hours of the night. Even people that were trying to be respectful were making enough noise that I couldn't sleep. Car doors, engines, headlights flashing around...ugh. I will never stay in any campground again unless I'm deaf and blind.

Check in process is smooth, staff are very professional and friendly. Campground is quite conveniently located.

Camp site we stayed at (372G) was really not very enjoyable. While it was on the end of the loop, so a couple less neighbors, it was right next to a junction of 2 roads, so lots of cars going by all the time. The site is all rocks and loose dirt no grass or gravel for the tent unless you squeezed your tent into the car slot with your car, which was nicer gravel. Only a little shade, only in the afternoon. Bathroom was nearby and people frequently walked through our camp to cut the corner to the bathroom. This site would really benefit from the construction of a tent pad covering the rocks and dirt.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
