We were there the second week of October. There was no snow on the ground but you can tell there had been some rain recently. The drive was as expected, slow and steady but nothing my crossover midsize SUV couldn't handle. The cabin was great. The propane fridge and stove worked fine. We didn't mess with the lights. The axe and hatchet are pretty dull and I wish I would have taken my stone sharpener to leave there. Luckily I had brought my own axe and I split quite a bit of kindling for the next travelers.
I did forget my Open flame campfire grill next to the fire ring, and I hope it doesn't rust but whoever is staying there is more than welcome to use it. It's part of the La Barge Guard Station community now.
Saw an enormous Great grey owl in the evening. It's wing span was insane.
We didn't see any other wildlife, but it was pretty quiet throughout the night and I slept outside on top of the picnic table looking up at the stars. My wife slipped inside with the heated blanket and the propane heater turned up.
This was such a great location for us. Would definitely stay there again, hopefully several days next time, and it's really inspired me to look for similar places throughout Arizona and Colorado.

I'm a old man that has to go to the bathroom several times a night. Having a out house apx. 40 yards away from cabin is not fun to do several times a night. Cabin was fairly clean. I stayed at the cazier cabin the week before. Cazier cabin is very nice. After staying there, this cabin doesn't cut it.

We went middle of July in a dry summer and still had amazing wildflowers all around the cabin and on the drive from Afton. We saw moose, deer, and cranes! A couple tiny creeks literally surround the cabin, but maybe that’s what lead to so many mosquitoes. The fridge worked well, the windows screens were tired but intact so we could open the windows and still keep the flies and mosquitoes out. The beds were solid and mattresses sufficient. Our main concern was at times the very strong smell of propane inside the cabin, which was scary. The outhouse door hinges were ripped out but we got the door cobbled back together enough to use. We had a nice hike up a bit of the Lander trail, found lots of the tiniest strawberries I’ve ever seen but they were delicious!l It’s not the Marriott- but that was kinda the point!

Such a incredible location, cabin is cozy, has a nice propane heater, we didn't even need the wood stove. Plenty of firewood in the shed. Great place to snowmobile, the trail was well groomed

Nice and cousy cabin, cleaner them expected and with the wild life around. Just reaching it took quite some time, cause the road required adjusted speed due to unexpected huge holes.
