About Keystone Ranger Station

Located deep within the Medicine Bow National Forest, Keystone Cabin offers a unique lodging experience in southeastern Wyoming for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. It is open 11 months of the year, and offers access to a variety of recreational opportunities in all seasons. The cabin once served as the District headquarters for the Keystone Ranger District, and has been remodeled to preserve the historic value of the cabin while adding a few modern amenities, such as electricity. Due to the rustic and historic nature of the cabin, guests will need to bring a few of their own supplies for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. During the summer, the cabin is accessible by car, but guests should be prepared to get there in winter by snowmobiling, skiing or snowshoeing five miles from Albany Snowmobile Parking Lot. Please be aware that there may be snow in the area until the end of June and the road can be muddy and bumpy; we recommend calling the USFS Laramie Ranger District office at (307) 745-2300 prior to your reservation to receive the latest weather and road conditions.

Keystone cabin had everything we needed to crate a great experience. The kitchen was well equipped, furniture was in great shape and the location was enjoyable. We wanted to experience the Snowy Range and it wasn’t too far from the cabin. We didn’t miss connectivity at all. Highly recommend this facility.

A few friends and I skied in to Keystone Ranger Cabin on March 15. The cabin was delightful – it was a treat to have running hot water and electricity on a hut trip. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed the puzzles and games.

The cabin is wonderful. It has running water and electricity. The cabin was neat and had everything we needed (and then some). The only thing lacking was glasses for drinking, but there are plenty of coffee mugs. The area around the cabin is beautiful. Highly recommend a quiet weekend at the cabin.

We loved it here! Perfect location in Albany county. Not far from centennial and the snowy range mountains. Fully electric, has a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and stove. The wood stove worked great and it was nice having a full bathroom. The cabin is well kept by all of the guests. Roads are also in good condition and the cabin is easily accessible. It snowed on us the day before we left. Perfect vacation.

It was a great experience. It would be helpful to post a sign on the cabin that is rented so folks know which one to look for the lockbox. Also, the lockbox is worn and should be replaced with a new one that works better. Also, more split firewood would be good so folks don't need to bring their own, which might be diseased.

Great place, peaceful and secluded. We had a great time with the kids playing horseshoes, frisbee, canoeing at the reservoir, and marshmallows at the campfire. There is a curious marmot that hangs out in the wood piles. The cabin was stocked with all the essentials and there was plenty of dry firewood in the basement.

We visited the cabin in January. Lots of snow and beautiful location. The cabin was the perfect for our ski journey. My only complaint is that Rec.gov information is more pertinent to visiting during the summer. Even the National Forest wasn't very helpful in providing additional info on a winter visit.

Had the best time here. Cooked under the stars in the fire pit. Beds comfortable, just bring all linens. Great for an unplugged family bonding trip!!
