This was a very wonderful time. I would encourage anybody to go to the cabin. The view is breathtaking

Cabin was tremendous. There were actually 5 beds + the futon/couch. There was a full size bed downstairs and then 4 beds upstairs. The "mattresses" are a sort of futon-like pad on a rope & slat suspension system. It's not going to be very comfortable, but it's camping. They're also really loud and squeaky. And, obviously, you need to bring bedding of some sort. The couch/futon is absolutely brutal. Fortunately, nobody in my party had to sleep on it, but even sitting on it is painful. That "cushion" is long gone. That's the downside. Everything else is the upside. Really remote camping experience. No neighbors. No ever-present rangers (I'm looking at you, CO State Parks). No noise. Just peaceful solitude and amazing scenery. There is some traffic exploring the pass, but it's minimal. The cabin stays quite warm. We had unseasonably cool weather with highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 40s (maybe into the high 30s). We started a small fire in the wood burning stove (bring your own firewood, like regular camping) and it kept the entire cabin too hot. Most nights, people were too warm ... and that's with the fire dying out about midnight. Windows on all sides provides plenty of natural light for inside activities. Bring your own lights and lanterns if you want additional light. Previous campers leave behind items -- we played a game of yahtzee left behind and I added a deck of cards to the cabin. There is plenty of space inside, too. We ate dinner inside with 6 people seated at the table (works better with 4). Scenery cannot be matched. 20 minutes to Fairplay and an hour to Breckenridge, so there are plenty of places to go. Even the small pseudo-ghost town of Como is worth an hour or two. Everything in town was closed when we were there, but it looks like there is, in theory, a museum down by the "hotel." You can look at the old schoolhouse and church on the west side of town ... and the old roundabout. Great camping experience.

We loved staying in the cabin for two nights during the fall. There was plenty of wood near the outdoor fie pit that we used in the wood burning stove inside. Loved watching the sunset while sitting in front of the cabin. There were mice, only during the night, so we set out a few traps that are provided. Worked well. Great space for preparing food on the side table, and lots of room on the large table and benches to eat and play a few games. We found several nails to hang our gear from, out of the way and off the floor. Loved being in an historic cabin.
