Prairie Creek is highly praised for its beautiful, well-maintained grounds and spacious, clean campsites, many with water views. This is not a knock on the campground as Prairie Creek is my absolute favorite place to stay. The rating was poor due to this last trip ONLY. The was some hunting tournament where there were many hunting dogs tied up outside of many sites around us. The dogs were constantly howling and totally ruined the peace and quiet we are accustomed to at this campground. We called and complained about the constant barking and were told that a Ranger would go by and remedy the situation. That did not happen. I finally went to a group of the hunters and politely asked them to please take the barking dogs away from my campsite. There were people that drove in for the hunt that would just leave their dogs tied up in random places. They did remove the dog that created a large part of the noise but could not fix all of the noise. I wish there was a calendar of events that would warn campers of something like this when it is going on.
You will not find a better place to stay than Prairie Creek so please do not let this review deter you from staying there.

Gate attendant was friendly and the Park Ranger was very helpful. The site was clean and level. This is a hidden gem of the COE campgrounds.

Great place to stay. The bathroom/shower a great place to stay away from. It needs paint, more shower curtains for privacy and the ceiling fan hasn't been cleaned in many years. Not to mention all the hair on the floor.

Beautiful, spacious campsite right on the river. Older, clean facilities. Not very good internet coverage if you need to work on the road. Friendly camp host.

The more we traveled with our motorhome the more we've found we prefer Corps of Engineer campgrounds over commercial campgrounds. The Corps campgrounds are a bit off the beaten path, usually on a lake or river, larger campsites and so much more quiet than the commercial sites. We had a beautiful pull through site with water and electric at Prairie Creek. We had a large site with a beautiful view of the lake from our dining room window. The view was wonderful as we enjoyed our breakfast. We were just passing through on our way to visit relatives so we only stayed one night. But this is a place I really want to come back to some day for a longer stay!
