About Twelvemile Cabin

Twelvemile Cabin is a fully accessible cabin located on Twelvemile Inlet on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska. The site offers recreation, relaxation and a unique lodging experience in the Tongass National Forest. Construction of this cabin was made possible through mitigation funds from Alaska Power and Telephone and the Federal Energy Regulatiory Commission. The cabin is accessible by vehicle and a short gravel trail. Although the site is not as remote as others in the area, visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

Twelvemile Cabin offers a stunning rainforest experience with beautiful views and a peaceful, secluded location right on the inlet. While the cabin itself needs some maintenance, including cleaning and an upgrade for the outhouse, it features a cozy wood stove and ample firewood. Cabin was great, two bunk bed platforms with full on bottom single on top. Wood stove, others had left some Viking Logs/compressed logs from Klawock. Recommended grabbing a box for your trip.

This was the most beautiful and well maintained cabin I could have imagined. We only stayed 3 nights, but wish we could have stayed a lot longer. It's in a great location on POW and has an amazing view. A great way to get away from it all and truly be alone! Would stay here again a thousand times and hope we can make our way back there again!

The twelvemile cabin way exceeded our expectations. Very clean and as advertised. There was wood to burn and we left some ourselves. Someone has also left two kayaks with a paddle a piece. Thank you so much USFS for the opportunities for out of staters to come to AK and take in what the state has to offer.

The cabin was great and the crabbing and bear hunting was exceptional. We had a great time. The only challenge was wood. There was no wood at the cabin so we purchases Viking bricks. However, they were a bit challenging to find. That said, the stove kept the cabin cozy and the entire week was a fantastic experience.

This is a great little cabin in a remarkable location. A few things to be prepared for:

No cell coverage.
Wood fire place not good for cooking. Works great to warm cabin.
Wood is difficult to get nearby. If possible, bring it.
Bring something to light cabin inside. Head lamp works but isn’t ideal.
