About Russian River

Beginning Aug. 15, 2025, the Russian River Campground will be closed to the Public for construction.Construction crews will rebuild and widen one mile of the access road, making it more stable and resistant to frost heaves. During the closure, all vehicle and pedestrian access will be restricted and campground reservations on Recreation.gov will be unavailable.  Russian River Campground is perched between the Russian and Kenai Rivers in south-central Alaska. It lies within driving distance of two main population centers, 110 mi south of Anchorage and 40 mi east of Soldotna, surrounded by the Chugach National Forest and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.Each year, this area is visited by over 100,000 people who recreate at the Russian River Campground, Ferry Access Site, Sportsman's Boat Launch, Russian Lakes Trail and K'beq Site. Hiking, biking and fishing are popular pastimes.

Our campsite was clean and spacious. We were in an RV. The parking spot was mostly level. The dump station and potable water refill locations were convenient. The latrines were clean and refreshed often. Enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful campground and I’ve visited many times. The restrooms certainly need a make over. Sites in interior Alaska have similar, but much nicer (cleaner and well ventilated with hand sanitizer) facilities. Other than that, splendid area but bears are plentiful along the river this time of year so using common sense is extremely wise. Bear spray or a weapon is also worth considering for personal protection.

Russian River and Quartz Creek campgrounds are my favorite spots to camp at Cooper Landing.

Russian River campsites often have great views of the mountians. The way they laid out the campsites at RR is awesome, the sites are relativly close to each other but arranged to allow a good deal of privacy. Oh and the water from the spigots is GREAT!

Highly recommend Russian River campsites!

Campsite 6 was a great site. A path to the river was just across the street. There was a potable water spigot right at the site to fill buckets. Site was a little difficult to back into, but we made it work with our 37 ft fifth wheel. Verizon service was 2-3 bars. Overall great campground!

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
