About Kook Lake Cabin

Kook Lake Cabin sits on the west end of Kook Lake, approximately 45 miles northeast of Sitka, Alaska. The cabin is available May through November, weather permitting, and makes an excellent base for experiencing and exploring this corner of Alaska. The cabin is remote and accessible by floatplane, weather permitting, 30 minutes from either Sitka or Juneau. The cabin can also be reached by a boat and hiking trip. The cabin is about an 8-mile hike from Corner Bay. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring their own amenities.

Kook Lake Cabin is world class for hunting and fishing! We especially love the wood stove, thank you for allowing several cabins to remain as wood stoves.

Previous users had left quite a mess for us to clean up before we could really β€œenjoy” the cabin. After about 2 hours work, we got things in order and had a fine weekend at our 24th Tongass fly-in cabin visited. πŸ™‚

General

  • This facility is located in an extremely remote and wild area; before making a reservation, become aware of bear, water, and weather safety (including cold)
  • Recreating in Alaska can present both obvious and hidden dangers; please be aware of your surroundings and be prepared for extended stays due to occasionally poor weather
  • Cabin may be inaccessible from December through early May due to frozen lake surface (floatplanes cannot land); please contact the local Forest Service Ranger District office for current information prior to making reservations during these periods
  • Firewood may be in short supply at any time of the year
  • Boil or treat stream water
  • All garbage and food must be packed out
  • For boat or air charters, contact the Sitka Convention and Visitors Bureau at 907-747-5940 or online
  • Learn more about the Tongass National Forest
  • Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by purchasing firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
  • The invasive European Green Crab (EGC) has been found in southern Southeast Alaska and is suspected to be in more locations on the Tongass National Forest. Please actively look for and report EGC to help map the distribution and contribute to management.
