We stayed at the Kelly Lake cabin. It was great! The location is in the 2019 wildfire area, but there are still some trees around the cabin. This was my first time at the cabin, and here are some things I learned: the cabin is a 1/2 mile walk from the parking lot (not a 1/4 mile like the website states), the trail is narrow and has lots of roots (hard to pull a cart on it), the row boat leaks, no GCI cell service, and you can hear the Highway noise at the cabin. But here are some great things: the lake is beautiful and calm, we saw loons and swans, there’s hiking available, there were tons of cranberries to pick, the outhouse is adorable, the fire pit grill lifts up so you can access the logs in the fire easily, and this was the cleanest public use cabin I’ve ever been to. We had a great time!

Never made it to the cabin because of bad weather both days. The people that had the cabin reserved before us were stuck over there so we couldn't go to the cabin anyway.

Great cranberries and gorgeous views. The seven lakes trail was root bound but a good hike.

You are close to the mouth of the Kenia river for fishing. When you get tired of snagging dead fish,. you can go over to the Lucas Island passage and watch for black bear. When the wind is up sit in the cabin and watch the white caps on the lake or hike above and around the cabin. Stay cozy warm in the cabin.

Access to each individual cabins varies. Some can be reached by hiking-in, while others require a boat or plane to access . In winter, a snowmachine may be necessary. Please refer to each specific cabin for information on amenities and accessibility.
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge: From Anchorage, take the Seward Highway south to the Sterling Highway; the eastern refuge boundary is at milepost 55 of the Sterling Highway. Another 5 miles from the boundary is the west entrance to the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area. Continuing on to Soldotna will bring you to the refuge visitor center and headquarters, which is found by taking a left onto Funny River Road, then turning right (before the building supply store) onto Ski Hill Road.
Access to Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Cabins is via the Sterling Highway, with the eastern boundary of the refuge located at milepost 55. The Sterling Highway provides a route toward Soldotna, where the refuge visitor center is located.
