The roads were freshly graded, and the cabin is in excellent condition. We carried fresh water rather than purifying lake water. Bring your own wood cutting tools as the ones that are there are not great. The hike through the burn field was interesting; hiked at Upper Skilak Lake Vista Trail as well, which is a completely different ecosystem. Conditions were quite windy at Engineer Lake and in the burn field. Didn't use the boat. Saw one or two other parties on the trails, but no one approached the cabin. Peaceful place.
